just got a LNIB Shaman off of a forum member. I am really impressed and very happy with the knife except it has a little lock rock and blade play (i can feel it but its very hard to see). I have never owned a spyderco folder before let alone a compression lock and was wondering if this is something that would wear in or if i should adjust the pivot? The pivot seems tight to me.

I've had 2 Shamans and both had side/side blade play. Very odd for a Spyderco in my experience. When I tightened the pivot to eliminate the side/side play, it was really tight to open. Wasn't happy, so I ended up selling them both. I'll give the CF/s90v a try when it comes out, but if it has the same issues as my previous 2, then I'll end up selling it as well.

Did they both have side play from the start or did it develop with a little use? Also, was that while open, closed, or both?

Please let us know here how the CF Shaman is when you get it.

Darn thats unfortunate, i really like the knife otherwise. Love the contoured handle but sounds like i might be better off with a manix...

Both had slight side/side blade play out of the box. Tightening the pivot on both ended up with a tighter action than I'm used to. Have no clue when the CF/s90v is coming out, but I do want to try it again.

The one I just purchased from the "exchange" this past week, (BHQ M4), has absolutely no motion in any direction, and drops closed.

Now, I don't know if the there was any issue before the original owner took it apart to dye the covers, but there is no hint of any unwanted movement.

Did the seller disclose that or did you ask the seller about these things? One of either option is necessary imho.

Did you finalize the sale or ask the seller after you got it, and resolve it with them?

Have you tried tightening the pivot slightly.

You can use the spyderco warranty and they should be able to fix the problem. If not send it back to them till it is.

I loosened and tightened both pivots and retightened. No blade play or lock rock but it is stiff. I think i will keep using it and it will probably loosen up.

Put a few drops of mineral oil around the pivot, much smoother. Not fall shut but probably just needs to be worn in at this point.

Well, i thought i had it dialed in. The shaman has lock rock and blade play again. Tried tuning the pivot screws again to try and fix it but it is worse than before, tight opening and closing but sloppy when opened. Sending it in to spyderco asap. Just thought i would update.

I own 2 Shamans (m4 & S30V) and neither one thankfully show any signs of this. Contact spyderco, they will take care of you!
