It sorta got lost in the thread 'Kassi's seal of approval', but could you fill us in a bit more about this new system? Is it a V grind, convex, or what? Thanks for the info.

Just got my new Hand American sharpening kit yesterday. Must say it is damn sweet!! Superb quality to anything I've ever had. The kit included the ProCombo Deluxe hone w/tub of chromium oxide, canvas pad, 2-leather strips, plenty of pre-cut sandpaper,1-ceramic chef rod,and 1-steel chef rod.Total with shipping was $136. I told the guy I needed a good sharpening system for my Busse blades and he just put a couple of new kits together and said it was a bit expensive but was a great system for Busse, so I went with it. Like I said it is the best quality I've ever had. Very happy.:D

Told ya, you can't go wrong with HandAmerican. Don't have the Pro yet, but have the smaller system along with steels and stuff.

just ordered my pro combo deluxe set, wich can be found here - http://www.handamerican.com/pcdeluxe.html, and also ordered a smooth steel... ive been wanting a smooth steel since i knew they existed, and have always loved the idea of leather honing, i had just never had a good set of leather to do it with, so knowing how was kind of moot...

gonna be here around tuesday, along with my new beadblasted active duty :D :D :D :D.... its gonna be awesome....

and the guy who answered the phone was really realy nice as well :D

nothin but compliments so far...

You didn't get the half smooth half grooved version? That's what I have and love it. You get the best of both in one and, at no extra charge.

whats the benefit of a half smooth half grooved version over the glass smooth one?

what i want from my steel is to solely realign the edge, without taking any metal with it. i want my edge to be as evenly maintained as possible, and it seems as though taking a gritted surface and hitting the bumps of a misaligned edge would take off more at the bump then on the un... bumped part.... ya...

and i figure that if i like the smooth, and want the grooved, its not expensive at 20$ (25ish with shipping) :)

This is true if you are talking about 'regular' grooved steels. The grooving on the HandAmerican is so fine that you almost have to hold it to the light to tell the difference from the glass smooth side. It is extremely fine and I doubt that the blade would bounce across or that it would be agressive in taking off steel. In any event you'll be very pleased with it I'm sure. It's very high quality.
