I never had one of the older ones (i.e. before Schrade closed, and China took
over production). The newer ones look interesting, though. Does anyone have
one, and have some opinions to pass along?

Plus, any opinions on any other short (3" blade approximately) non-folders?

Thanks

I am kind of facinated by the Sharpfinger design and I've been trying to find an old USA made model in like new shape, but they are a lot more expensive than the current productions ones. I'd be very interested if someone who has both could comment on the difference in quality. Other than the "made-in-USA-ness" of the older knives, are they really enough better than the current production to be worth spending 3-5 times as much for one?

Bear & Sons has one I've been looking at. Bone scales, 440A, made in USA, $20. Anyone try the Bear?

Very cool pattern - it allows you to really choke up on the blade for fine tip work.

A while back, one of the knife mags did an article on the new compared to the old, F&F, edge holding, sharpening, etc. I'll try to find it, but it may be Monday before I can post the info here. I'll edit this post with the info when I locate it.

Bottom line: the old & new were close in quality, but the old was a little better in most respects. The new one was thought to be a good user.

thx - cpr

I had a big sharp finger. Like a foot long at one time and ended up getting rid of it. It was a full flat ground knife that a neighbor gave me. I forget the model designation but didn't see to may like it. It was a good knife and well made just never used. keepem sharp

I have 2 of the oldies. The regular and the Scrimshaw. Never used them much but never wanted to get rid of them either!

A lot of Bark River's stuff is real horrorshow. I love their stuff. I have a beat to hell original sharpfinger and I love it. My folks got it for me and my brother to share like 20 years ago. How I ended up with it the world will never know!

The knife you describe could be the Schrade Deer slayer. I have two and they have seen alot of use over the years.
