New Sheath Setup from forum member

I recently posted a request on this forum for someone able to make a new kydex sheath for one of my favorite knives: NWA 4" Scout. After a recent hike using a backpack with waistbelt, I realized it was very uncomfortable (impossible) to wear this knife with its included leather sheath on my belt. Now, if you are familiar with Nick's knives you know his leather sheaths are amazing  and I love mine for day hikes when I have no waist belt.

Second, I really liked ESEE's use of a detachable pouch for their knives. So, I ordered one of their pouches in OD green and put everything in a box for Steelnut. I told him I wanted a sheath which is completely modular, includes a drop leg feature (something he's know for), includes a fire steel holder and allows me to attach the ESEE pouch (large enough for a Altoid tin survival kit). No easy task, but here are the amazing results :D

First is the knife and NWA leather sheath:

The next picture is the parts of the new sheath from Steelnut and a series of photos putting the pieces together:

Just knife and sheath...the holes allow for a Tek-Lok or clips:

And finally, the whole kit put together:

I'm very, very happy about this sheath and kit. The ability to take it all apart and use what I need for each trip into the woods is fantastic. The workmanship is very good, simple and to the point. Knife retention is similar to Nick's leather sheath. Thank you Steelnut for a great product and excellent service!!!:thumbup:

Slick. 'Not a fan of kydex but that modular system looks pretty awesome. The scout has definately caught my eye, not a huge fan of that jimping though.

Nice set up. I just finished putting together a similar set up for my RC4. The only thing I lack is the fire steel loop.

Now that's an awesome setup...doesn't get more versatile. But screw the sheath, that NWA Scout is a beauty. :)

Thanks all. I just received this setup today, so I'm excited to get out and use it soon. I've taken the knife out many times, and it is a great knife. I've used it for woods walking, backpacking on the AT, and whitetail season. Nick does a great job combining beauty (blade hamon), comfort (most comfortable handle I've used), and function (great steel, heat treat, edge retention, strikes a great fire steel).

I had that very same idea about using the ESEE pouches and a kydex sheath, and the MOLLE back platform ESEE makes on a Gossman I had. It never came to be though.

Man that really turned out nicely. Looks very well made, and you can configure it in many different ways. Love Coyote kydex too.

I love a nice leather sheath, but its always nice to have kydex and leather for a knife you love.

Great thread, thanks for postin.

Yup, I agree  I had a kydex sheath made for my Sierra Scout (mine by mbhanzo), it's nice to have both kydex and leather.

Just fyi othello, Nick does danglers for his sheaths as well. The dangler I got with my Scout works just fine with a waistbelt . Congrats on the new sheath :).

very cool... that is a great looking set up... i like it a lot.. i have been maening to pick up one of those ESEE pouches for a while now... i may have to try and put a set up like this together...:D

Thanks for the heads up about Nick's sheath danglers. I'll talk with him about.

The ESEE pouch is very nice and the tin it comes with is great for a small kit.

 In fact, I believe Nick can just send you the leather loop with the split ring and you can just add it to your current sheath.

Yeah, the altoid kit in the ESEE pouch does look very nice...gonna have to check those out :)

Oh crap... Thanks... This sent me looking for NWA knives, and now I've gone and done fallen in love with the Sierra Scout model...

Time to sell something... :p

That's a sweet setup. I am going to check out those pouches right now, they look super handy. I love the idea of the clip on the belt loop, plus all the eyelets on the sheath. I rarely carry a knife on my belt, so different ways of carry and attachment always interest me.
