I picked these two KKs up from DOTDs ver the past couple of months. As you can tell, one of them is Montana Elk. THe other is Buffalo Horn. I bought them as camp knives for my little brother and sister. I contracted Vadim Grynko, proprietor of
Vess Leatherworks, to make a couple sheaths for them. He sent me pics this morning. I couldn't wait to post them here.

Edited to fix link.

Well met, a match made in heaven, what can I say?
You put that much respect into a tool and it shines back upon the owner and all around him.

That is some sweet work!!!!

That inlaid one is something else!!! Ahh what is it??

Kudos to the maker!!!

Beautiful! Wonderful pictures. I saw some of Vadim's work earlier on a sheath he did for a customer of Dan's, that matched a great handle Dan put on the guys khukuri. I think it was curly maple.

That antler KK is a beauty and the sheath matches perfectly.

It's ivory-coloured sting ray.

I think he's completely sold me on inlays. I'm thinking about a wine-coloured sting ray inlay on my YCS Karda, and maybe a black python inlay for my little Balance. The only problem is that it limits the tooling options...

Wow!!!! Those are absolutely beautiful but then Vadim's work always is! Vadim is definitely a mastercratfsman when it comes to leather work. I'm not a fan of inlayed leatherwork generally as it seems so many folks don't really know what they're doing and the inlayed sheaths are usually way too flimsy and distort out of shape quickly.:(
Using ray skin I think would eliminate all of the deformation that the lighter leathers without adequate backing have. I love ray skin but have never worked with it. Ray skin wasn't so common when I was doing my leatherwork.

It might be helpful if you let us know where in the world you and this fine leatherworker are. The link didn't work for me.
Thanks for the swell post, anyway :)

Perhaps due to the lack of aquatic sting rays in Oklahoma. Now, yer poisonous jack rabbits, that's another story:D

I'm currently in Golden, British Columbia. Vess Leatherworks is in Toronto, Ontario.

Sorry the link didn't work. I'm not sure what the problem was. I typed it in again to double-check.

Again...stunning work bro

I gotta get me a piece of Ray skin!!!

hmmm...a nice piece of Albino Burm would be sweet as well...hmmmm
