I recently received a few knifes back in the mail. I'd sent my newly acquired FFBM, SFNO LE and BAD over to the Netherlands for Martin Swinkels to whip up some sheaths for. I really like his technical leather/kydex sheaths. Pretty much the best of form and function combined. To me they're like functional pieces of art. I took a heap of pics this arvo (please excuse the iPhone quality pics):
Here they are. The snakeskin FFBM and BAD are set up for piggy back. The FFBM sheath is lined with black kydex and the BAD is the reverse - black leather lined kydex. The BAD is particularly rare so I wanted to keep it a little more protected in it's sheath, hence the lining. They will both be users so I suppose it doesn't really matter in the end.
The SFNO LE is special as it's a gift for my wife. I decided to go with a natural leather on this one with a chocolate kydex lining. The natural leather will age nicely over time giving it real character. It appears to be a "standard" drop-leg, but has many features.
Here's the FFBM piggy back broken down:
Here it is in dangler configuration with leg strap. Along with the precision kydex fit it also has strap retention:
This is the back side of the sheath. This pic gives you an idea of just how modular this sheath is. Again, this is in dangler mode:
By adjusting the straps and moving some parts it quickly becomes drop leg:
Again, with minor adjustment I can add MOLLE straps for pack mount or even a Tek Loc to increase the amount of ways it can be worn:
The leather lined BAD sheath is equally handy. Once removed from the FFBM I can add a Tek Loc for various belt carry options:
Here's the SFNO LE. This is almost perfection in my eyes. Near perfect size and weight, sabre ground limited edition with amazing slabs.
As it's not to too heavy I figured it would be the ultimate knife for my wife. It was a recent gift for her. I had Busse engrave it for me:
This is the back side of the sheath. Very basic, or is it...
If you look closely you can see the drop leg loop can be adjusted for height. It can also be removed completely for a Tek Loc:
It can also be set up for pack carry with the addition of MOLLE straps, with or without the firesteel loop:
I've gotta say I'm pretty happy to have these knives right now but the icing on the cake are these sheaths. I can't thank Martin Swinkels enough for the amazing craftsmanship. It was neither cheap nor fast but it was certainly worth it. Some of the best user sheaths in the world for some of the best user knives. I just have to wait for the latest round of state wide flooding and disasters to settle down before I go out and use them.
Chris.
