New sheaths on hunters

I just completed a couple of small hunters for some local guys and decided to use my newly designed finger release sheath design. They thought the knives were great but were really pleased with the sheaths and how they worked. I know they will actually use them so I am looking forward to getting feedback about long term durability and ease of use. I believe they will work out well and are really suitable for a large range of designs as long as the guard extends beyond the blade edge.

Thank for the comments Stuart. I appreciate the feedback. I do think it is a cool mechanism. I just need to figure out a way to not spend hours building up and fitting the welt lock to make it cost effective.

The sheaths look great.

I have played around with several different variations of a welt lock, and I have always hit the same problem as you. It can be done...but it sure does take some time and effort to get right.

Nicely done, but dang...that guard looks to be ideal for your basic retention built into the welt, pouch type sheath......

Rayban,
You are absolutely correct that a pouch with a "bump" in the welt would suit this design. The reason I am trying something new is that my exprience suggests that, over time, the bump gets worn down and the sheath fitting does more to hold the knife in than the welt. It still can and does work and there may be methods I don't know to make it last but this has the potential to maintain a fit for a vey long time. Alas, it does take a lot of extra time to make correctly.
