SUMMER IS OVER--SCHOOL HAS STARTED--I--HIP HIP HORRAY--TIME FOR WE COLLECTORS TO PLAY !!!!!!

DHL just delivered yesterday TWO boxes of HI knives and I am so excited about getting them ready to put on the Forum. This is one of the first out of the box and though a stock model does have one new feature. This is a VILLAGER PEN KNIFE weighing 24 oz.; overall length 18 inch with bolster, buttcap and fittings white metal. It comes with an unpolished blade which gives a better chopping performance than a polished one. NEVER OFFERED BEFORE is the beautiful fine grained handle of SHUER wood. The scabbard is standard wood with leather lacing. If you do not have one of these in your collection now is a good time to acquire one or give one as a gift. Usual fine work my master kami Bura. Price $135YBB***** *SOLD*

Email to order:) :)

The wood handle and villager blade combination are very pleasing to the eye. I like the lighter woods.

This one is beautiful...especially the handle. I now see what many have said about the 18" pen looking very much like a WWII. As I scrolled thru the pics I said to myself how much I loved this WWII...to my surprise I found it was a pen. I still love it though.

Lovely alright.

Interesting what you said about the similarity to the WWII... I was thinking Ganga. Which just illustrates to me the cross-breeding that inevitably goes on with a handmade product. The best features of the various chopping-oriented and unfullered blades start to merge, form following function.

Doesn't matter what it's called - it's pretty, and would chop like mad.

That's not the Pen knife we used to know. HI Kamis have pushed the shape forward. I'd like to see a side by side chop test with that and the original design.

The pen knife, imho, has always shared a lot in common with the Ganga. This design is heading Ganga Way. It is a very attractive looking blade.

Munk, are you sure it's not just because it's so long? Looking at the 12" 15" and 18" the front seems similar, they just sort of stretch it out. Thoughts?

*Edit: What I meant was that while the shape of the front does change, the biggest difference between the three sizes is that they add a longer narrow part before the belly starts, making the overall shape very different.

I think the shape is different. I thought the 'ball' of metal on the blade used to be further back.
And I wonder if the curve isn't slightly greater too.

Huh. I can't say, being here more recently. Compare the pic of this one to the pic of yesterday's though. Does yesterdays seem more rounded / Pen Knifey and this one more WWII-ey to you?

PS - Whoever gets this one has to show us what that wood looks like polished. It looks like the grain really starts to contrast when it's oiled.

Recent Pens exhibit this 'trend'. Hey; maybe it's all in my mind. There's lot's of stuff in there. Some of it aint accurate.

Very nice. I can't wait to see what else was in those boxes!!:D
I think it is safe to say that we are all waiting to see the contents. If there is a villager Bas in there, hands off...it's mine.:D

I think it's Khukri-creep. The Pen morphing into an Ang Khola - but still - an interesting knife. :D

I've noticed it too.

the pen knives have been "creeping" towards the front, kinda like a ganga ram.

I like the older ones, hope this doesn't keep up before I can afford one.
