I have always said that I don't like pit bulls.
I thought they were mean dogs and not to be trusted.
That wasn't based on anything other than my opinion.
Well......my opinion has changed.

Several days ago we were adopted by a pit bull.
He just showed up and stayed. I guess he wanted to be one of the shop dogs here.
When he showed up he was kind of skinny and hand shy like maybe he had been smacked around.
Now he is happy, very affectionate and extremely mellow.

I really like him. Hope he decides to stick around.
We call him Kirby.

I have Rotties, but you don't see much good said about these two breeds. Ya made my day!!!!

Boy he's a bruiser Mark! Look at all that muscle

Even though a thread of mine about a year ago stirred the pot and got a few guys thinking otherwise, I'm a firm believer in treating dogs like people... Treat them as you want to be treated. If they're nice back, then you'll probably be friends. And come to an opinion of them based on that one particular dog.... Just like people... some are great and some are real poop-heads! ;) :)

Glad a nice dog found a nice home!!! :)

He is a beautiful dog!!!! You keep him fed and a warm place to sleep and he will be your best friend for LIFE!
Also he wont ever complain that you dont do enough, or you fed him a hour late. lol

My buddy has two pitbulls. They are some of the most affectionate, obedient and protective dogs I have ever met. Just like any animal (people included) they need to be socialized to be able to interact socially. I hope your new shop dog sticks around so you can enjoy each others company.

Bringing in a homeless pet into your life is an honorable good deed. He looks like he needs a loving home and you both gained as a result. Pit Bulls make for a loving pet, they are gentle loving creatures and don't deserve the bad press they recieve. Any kind of dog can be aggressive if trained to be.

Kirby is getting settled in pretty good here.
This is his usual pose.

He is still a little camera shy.

Now he figures out that's a doggy treat in my hand.

it looks like you have a new friend mark. pit bulls are no different than any other dog. it all depends on how they are raised. a friend had one she raised from a pup that was the friendliest dog i have ever seen. she would let out a scream if anyone she liked came by. sometimes she would scream so loud it would hurt your ears. she had to be put down after getting liver cancer.

Good looking dag.
As said treat pits right and they come out right. Slightly abused dogs can be skittish around new people and kids. Just keep an eye on him when you get new people around the shop. As I've seen some dogs that where abused become aggressive from small things like a hat, cologne, or hand movement. What is the neck size on Kirby by the way

I didn't measure his neck, but both of my hands won't fit around it.
I think I should make a wagon with a harness and put him to work hauling stuff around the wood yard.
He is adapting really well.
At dinner time he makes me laugh out loud as he gets all tail wagging, wiggly and goofy acting.

Well done man. You can make friends and protectors for life out of these dogs.

Nawwww what a cutie. Looks like a big happy dope. Like my little boy (see my avatar). Looks like he might be slightly blind in his left eye though. Just looking at that first picture...
