Well, they haven't actually started on it yet, but I just learned that the permit finally went through. Hallelujah! They should start working on it in the next few weeks.

Here's a couple views of the site. We did the site preparation ourselves (my dad and I) last fall.

Looks good so far! Is it gonna be water proof? :D Wasn't that area almost under water earlier this year? -Matt-

I don't know, Phil. Judging by that field you're not far enough away from the supervisor to get much work done.

What will the dimensions be? Wood or steel?

Awesome!!

It will be 32' X 48'. Right now my hot work area is 12 X 12, and my finishing area is a room in my house about 15 X 15, so this will be a big step up.

Plus it will have real electrical wiring. :D Right now everything in my hot work shed is run off of extension cords....

Karl, not sure when the first hammer-in will be, but I definitely plan on having some.

Matt, it's at least 3 feet above the 100 year flood marker, so I don't think it will be problem. If it were, the Planning Commission would certainly not have approved the permit.

My dream is to have a 240 AND 120 volt outlet every 6 feet, and steel compressed air line all around the perimeter, with quick connect fittings every 15 feet or so. I also want a BIG propane tank outside, so I don't have to keep filling my 100 pound tank every couple months....

It's going to have a concrete slab, and a hefty foundation for power hammers to go on. Eventually, there will be a room at one end for finishing work, and sheath making.

That is friggin' sweet man! I would kill to have a stand-alone shop! What do you think the total cost will end up being for the structure, running the lines, etc etc?

If I had land like you, i'd totally build a backstop and shooting range coming out of the shop with an indoor benchrest so I could shoot out of it in the winter.

Actually, I do have a "shooting range", very basic, with sort of a natural backstop. I really want to build a berm for a backstop, because I never know when there's trespassers in our woods, and sometimes the bullets bounce....

As for cost, the building itself will be $13000, the slab will be another 4 or 5K. Don't know yet what the wiring will cost, but with the cost of copper what it is now...

Sorry, forgot to say that it will be metal. The siding will be anyway.

They just delivered the trusses and poles not half an hour ago.

I'm excited!

Well, todays the day they're supposed to start working on the building. I'll try to get some pictures.

You're going to love that shop, Phillip. It'll probably be as messy as mine in a few years, I didn't think I could fill my shop up but....well, you saw it :D

I also have a shooting range out back

Well, the builder said an emergency came up, and they'll start working next Wednsday. We'll see.

You bet I'll love it. I'm sooo tired of tripping over all my tools. :)
How big is your shop? It was pretty full, but I was impressed at how clean it was. One of the first things I'm going to buy after my checking account recovers is a really good air system for sucking out all the dust.

You sure have room for a shooting range. What do you like to shoot? Right now mu favorite is my .45 auto, but ammo is so expensive...

Mine is 36'x48' and the air sucking system is a must have

I'm big into building and shooting custom Ruger 10/22s. Ruger .22 pistols also and I love to shoot my .45 but it is expensive.

The builder has informed me that they will be starting monday, not wednsday. We'll see. They've changed dates many times...

Here's a question for you all: Should I go with a light colored roof, or a dark roof? I would think a light colored roof would keep it cooler.
