Just got in this new little toy. Been wanting one for awhile now but man they are not cheap to have made up and you can not get them off the shelf.

Unfortunatly this is for a customers special run and I don't own the wheel. :(

I am hoping to be able to buy it from the customer after the run is over. But is still sure is fun to play with for now.

The coating is a thing called Borazon. Its tougher than diamond for cutting hardened steel.

There are only a few places that make them. One is local to me and is called Nation Diamond Labratories.

With a lathe. You can even heat treat it if you want.

Borazon CBN is recognized as one of the greatest technological advancements for grinding hardened ferrous and superalloy materials. It is second in hardness only to diamond with twice the hardness and four times the abrasion resistance of typical conventional abrasives. Borazon CBN, with exceptional thermal conductivity, provides improved surface integrity in the grinding of hardened tool, die and alloy steels, as well as nickel and cobalt-based superalloys.

They nickel plate the wheel, and then apply the CBN. There are different meshs' just like in diamond paste or sandpaper.

We used to make up serration wheels at GT knives out of regular grinding wheels for the surface grinder, but then we made up the wheel out of stainless and had it plated. I think it was $300-$500, if memory serves.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I do not have the facilities to machine it myself so they made it to spec from the customers CAD files.

Ya, those plating prices are about right
