After getting to hold 3 of them now, it seems like there is a whole new shop producing khuks. Even the scabbards are different.
You know I love HI blades or I wouldn't have bought so many of them, but the work coming out of Sgt. Karka's crew is better in my opinion than anyone at this point. Perfectly ground blades, no cho creep, no habaki bolsters, perfectly fitted handles using great wood that are curved just right, and he uses a lot of chainpuri style handles as well. The blades are perfectly sharpened, no dull ones here, and the scabbards fit EXACTLY. No more scabbards that fit the knife like a butter knife in a bucket. I can actually turn this scabbard upside down and have the knife stay in place.
THE ONLY small nit I have seen, is that the holes for the chakma and karda are unlined, with the nail heads exposed, and the small companion knife handles are subsequently scratched. This is a relatively quick fix though.
Finally, I have noticed a very distinctive incense smell on the scabbards, which leads me to believe the usual guys are not doing them, it the fit itself wasn't enough to tip me off.
Being the khuk pig that I am, I am forced to hold up on purchases for the rest of the month, but I wish now I had held off on those extra chandan Hanuman and Garud AK's last month so that I would have the bread to snag more of these Sgt. Karka knives instead now. Unless it's a BGRS in a handle type I don't have, or anything with osage orange handles, I'm holding out for Sgt. Karka stuff if I can get it. Great work!
Regards,
Norm
