Anyone heard anything about the release dates of the new Sikayo models?

I thought I read that CRK was going to make a couple other sizes in that model kitchen knife.

Those release dates are most likely based on the sales figures of the two sizes that are currently available. And if "published" forum interest is any indication, I'd say (in my totally unprofessional opinion) it ain't happenin anytime soon. These things have been a discussion "dud" around here. Nobody talks about 'em. It's like they don't even exsist really. I have the smaller one and it's freakin awesome! It's displaced my Shun to the point that I've listed it for sale. Nothing against the Shun it's just that it isn't needed (or even desired) anymore. The Sikayo is THAT good. A kitchen knife is a tool that you're gonna use on the average of six times per week FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Did you get that? FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!! That's almost every day. Cutting onions. Slicing tomatoes. Chopping celery. Mincing garlic. You name it. Why not use the very best? And no, I'm not talking about snobbish Japanese kitchen cutlery. Been there, done that. Japanese kitchen cutlery is great. Well worth the money too. Until, that is, you get your meathooks on a Sikayo. Then, well, those Japanese pieces have to compete for cutting time. And they do... For a while... Then the Sikayo becomes the "go to" piece. This happened to me. Get one of these. It will happen to you too. One of these days these CRK kitchen knives are gonna start getting the press they deserve. Be in the crowd that gets to say, "hey what's the deal? I knew about this back in the late 00's. What's all the fuss?"

CRK could work on the price, no doubt. But don't miss this piece. The sixer is way handy. Don't have any experience with the nine-incher. Cheers.

These look to be awsome knives. I think the smaller 6" would be a great all-around kitchen knife. I am defnately going to get one some day, there are just too many other CRK that I would like to get first though:D When I talked to Chris, he mentioned a smaller 4" blade utility kitchen knife type, a bread knife, and a serving fork. But said it might be a year or so away as they had many other projects going on. They would be an awsome set, but I know I will not be spending $1000 on a CRK kitchen knife set, even though I know it would be the best ever designed by a mortal !!! Though Chris Reeve is Superman. I will just get the ones I know I will use. Thats another eason I have not bought the 6'' as I see my wife use a 4" generic kitchen utility knife daily. Should they come out with one in that size, I would be all over it as in my household at least, it would see the most use.

Nyefmaker,
Thanks, those two knives you mentioned were what I had heard was next to come out. I couldn't remember what they were.

Thanks.

Anyone have pics of their Sikayo, either size, next to an 8" chefs knife for size comparison?

I'm not sure which size I want and need some more visual input.

Thanks.

Here's a fast snapshot of the six inch model pictured alongside the Shun 7 inch santoku that it displaced. The Sikayo is thicker but this is overcome by the chisel grind, which by it's nature is quite thin. The handle looks blocky and kind of comical but it too, just works somehow. There's a lot of little things that the Sikayo does right and overall it adds up. I remember Chris Reeve saying in the Woodsmonkey interview that this is a knife you're either gonna love or you're gonna hate. I can see where someone might hate it. At first. But if honestly used for a couple of weeks it really grows on you.

Unfortunately at it's current ridiculous price point, not many folks are gonna give it a shot. It's destined to remain one of the best kept secrets in the knife industry. :(

Are these knives really that ridiculously priced? It seems high end kitchen cutlery is fairly expensive. Are these more so?

I dont think they are overpriced. A good high quality kitchen knife is in this price range. The professional soldier and inyoni are only like $25 cheaper, so your getting a heck of a knife for $205

I have a 6.5" on the way. Glad this thread popped up. I was looking at some other kitchen knives the last couple weeks. When I saw CRK made some it ended the search. I will post some pictures and a review when it arrives. Won't be comparing it to anything but a Chicago Cutlery walmart special though...

Thanks.

I don't care what brand it is compared to, just the size difference.
