Hi Everyone,

First time post with a question about a Victorinox Farmer. My wife bought it for me as an anniversary present. Since Victorinox's website was out of stock, she ordered it new from Amazon (it arrived sealed in a standard Victorinox box).

Overall, I love this knife. I've had the traditional cellidor scaled models before, but this was my first Alox model. Upon closer examination, however, I noticed there are small "chips" all around the edges. I've included a picture below.

Is this normal? Is it just cosmetic? Or is it evidence of a defective batch? I don't mind if it's purely a cosmetic issue, as I tend to put knives through their paces. I just want to make sure it's not defective.

Thanks for any input.

Every single one of the many Alox models I have has it to some degree. What your Farmer has isn't bad at all. Enjoy your new knife!

Awesome! That's a relief. Doesn't bother me a bit now that I know it's "normal."

Thanks again!

Yes they all have it. Some worse than others but yours isn't bad. Enjoy!

Yep, the inside edges of the alox scales are left kind of sharp, and the anodizing chips off there quite easily. I like the sand and round those edges if I re anodize to prevent it.

Alox will chip and rub off easy. It looks like a fine farmer to me though. I own about 8 farmers or so :D

You guys are great! Thanks for feedback. Like I said, this is my first Alox model but I'm already in love with it. Love the heavier blade and overall durability of the Alox as opposed to the cellidor (not that I ever had a problem with the cellidor models...but still). The frontside awl is already one of my favorite features.

Thanks again!

I would worry about those "chips" or "gaps" when they have an influence on the functionality of the knife. This means, when is causes bladeplay (vertical and horizontal etc). But this is a normal thing at Alox versions. I just look over my Harvester, Farmer and Pioneer... each of them has such small gaps. But they dont have an influence on the function. So... nothing really to worry. But it that should come after some years of use - you could use Vic´s repair service which is just great in general.

Have a nice sunday & enjoy that nice Farmer! :)

As others have said, it's perfectly normal. I own about half a dozen Alox SAKs and they all have some degree of chipping.
