Just got the new Black/Snakeskin SJ TAC from the store. Big thanks to Scott for the assistance.
First impressions: This may be the perfect size Busse for me. It is about the right size for a belt knife, and will not be so heavy that it pulls my britches down to my knees. I think this knife will work well as a hiking/camping knife as I think it will be about perfect for batoning, whittling, food preparation, and any other camp chore that arises.
The fit and finish are superb and it is built like a tank, but is still fairly quick in the hand. The snakeskin Micarta has fast become my favorite.....I think because the earth-tone colors somewhat remind me of some natural handle materials.
Question on sharpening: I have a few convex grind bark rivers, and Mike Stewart cautions against using sharpening stones. He says that putting a micro-bevel defeats the purpose of the convex grind and that convex grinds are made to be stropped. Well, after my experience with his A-2 and a leather strop I was just blown away! A couple of passes on an old belt and the edge is sick!
Will the Infi respond to stropping as BRKT's A2 does? Does Jerry discourage putting a micro-bevel on, which would happen with the sharpmaker?
Here is a quich pic with the snakeskin on my FSH to illustrate the difference. The large Sebbie is thrown in for size scale.
