I have finally landed a grail knife that I have been after for a long time. It is a an original MOASH, snake skin and all. I love the blade, it is awsome. My problem is with the original slabs, they simply do not fit my hand, they are too small. I would like to send it back to Garth and have some Magnum slabs put on it so that it will fit me, but if I do that will I loose collector value due to the fact that it is no longer original as it was first released from Busse?

congrats on getting your unicorn.

collecting value is based on the buyer. there are a few knives i would pay big money for while someone else might not even give them a second thought.

if your looking for mag snake scales there were never made, all snake skin is regular thickness. now i have seen where liners are put underneath the scales to make them thicker. there are a few pics of them floating around here, try searching for them. i hope this help's.

I was looking at putting hand sanded G-10 Mags on it, which would completely change the original look. Good idea about the liners...that would help some, but nothing beats hand sanded Mag G-10 for my meat hooks for hands...

some people (lots of them actually) are crazy about snakeskin scales. me, I couldn't care less, but for some the scales themselves are grails of a sort.

using your MOASH and swapping the handles will certainly affect the value of one of those. so I'd say it really depends on what's most important to you, use/utility or value/collectability.

you could always keep the originals, and in a pinch you could have them put back on and have the knife restored to (more or less) original condition by the CS if you needed to.

hand-shaped magnum black canvas is my favorite, and the change (to me) is worth it in terms of use - and all of mine are users.

Use and mods are going to affect the value. If you are changing slabs for comfort, then I assume you will be using it. So it really comes down to whether you want a user or a safe queen. At least that's my take on it. YMMV
