New slip joint, a tiny trapper

I've been into knives for years, but never really got into slip joints. Well, I guess the natural progression is to eventually get into them, so I've picked up a few lately.

However, this thread is about a new one I bought yesterday. My Daughter & I met some friends of mine & their kids at The Bass Pro Shop & we looked at the Case knives. Well, my Daughter really liked the orange G-10 models, especially the Russlock. I almost got it, until she saw the tiny trapper & that was it. So, I bought a Case orange G-10 Tiny Trapper yesterday.

My Daughter is 7, but I've taught her the proper use of knives (As well as firearms), so she was checking it out on the way home last night & took a bunch of pictures of it with my cell phone, lol.

While it's nice that I got a new slip joint, I might have a problem carrying/using it. It seems she's looking at it all the time & I might not have a chance to use/carry it.

I do have a question, though. This one did come sharp, but I've read quite a bit about people preferring Case's CV steel. How good is Case's "surgical SS" & what is it (Is is a certain type of steel, like 440A or something like that)?

I'm also looking forward to the '08 BladeForums.com Northwoods med. Stockman that Ed T. has so generously set up for us. :D

I prefer the CV, but in such a tiny blade, SS is probably better. The bigger and thicker the blade, the more I like Carbon steel or CV.

Case's SS is 420 I think.

Congrats on the new knife, sort of! :D

Case's "Tru-Sharp" stainless is 420HC, or close enough. It really is a fine steel for a small pocketknife. Touches up real easy.

Personally I've been a CV addict for years. But, I've bought a number of SS Case knives over the last 2 yrs. Extremely nice knives and it gets scary sharp with little effort. While the CV seems to hold an edge just a tiny bit longer, the SS will sharpen much faster in my opinion.
