I got the hankerin' to try out a Canal Street knife and got it narrowed down to a couple. I wanted the slippie but after just receiving my Swayback Jack, my immediate lust has been quenched. I like the looks of this bone handled FB from Canal Street but the 3 3/4" half moon trapper... Hmm, eeny meeny miny mo...

I haven't bought a slipjoint all year, I've been on a fixed blade kick lately. If the swayback has scratched your itch, I'd suggest getting the sheath knife.

Steve,

You've been an awfully good boy on this sub-forum of late, I say get 'em both...

I've really got a 'thing' for fixed blade hunters. Trappers are all right, but they don't talk to me like these:

Yes, the standard answer is get both. If you can only get one at the moment, I guess it depends on usage/need of a folder vs FB. If you have some slippies to tied you over for the moment, then get the FB. It does look nice.

Now, if it's the Trapper, then between the 2 you posted, I'd say go for the one in autumn sunset bone. It's a different look than the others &, of course, looks nice.

I had forgotten about the fixed blade CS's.
I have a soft spot for nicely designed fixed blades, especially when hunting season rolls around :D

So many fixed blade knives are just impractical for field use. To big, poor blade design etc, but that one looks like it would be a great field knife.

Looks to be a nice sheath too. Those knives are D2 aren't they?

This model is 440C. If it were D2 I'd already be watching the mailbox!

Just like most of you I suspect I have both plenty of slippies and FBs, but what does that have to do with anything! :D

I've been eyeing that Canal Street fixed blade for a while now. I think it would be a perfect EDC utility knife.

Steve, Get'em both !! You deserve it for the give away you did this week!!
Well, that could be a good excuse for buying them both, If you need one?

I'd also say to get both, that's what I did. ;)(though not at the same time.)
Picked up the FB in D2 a few years ago. IIRC it was selling for $79.00...

If you're getting one of the two, I say go with the half moon trapper.
It's a great carry - very slim and nicely made.
Then there's the excellent blade steel which you don't see in many slipjoints.
It's available at a price which IMO makes it a bargain.

The FB in 440C? Meh...
I happen to like 440C, but there are knives around which are similar to the CS, but with blade steels that I like even more.

The half moon trapper is unique.

Looks like you need all 5 to me. I am really taken with those half moon trappers.

I have a half-moon trapper with the 14-4 CrMo blade. (Latrobes version of 154CM).

It's a nice knife. Excellent blade alloy. Very smooth. Excellent fit and finish. Spring is a bit light. Not super light, but lighter than those on a Case, or Queen, to say nothing of "lighter than a GEC". Makes a good Sunday-morning-go-to-church knife.
