I was looking for a good small fixed blade, and always wanted to try out the Small Tiger Knapp from Blind Horse Knives (BHK). It was $20 for the knife, $10 for the belt sheath or $12 for the neck sheath, and shipping was $12. I opted for the belt sheath, because I figured I could always use it as a neck sheath, but not vice versa.

I think this is where it gets its tiger name from. Although I like the design, I wanted a little better grip so I decided to wrap it with paracord.

It's made of 4140 steel, which is high in carbon and prone to rust/patina. So before I wrapped the handle, I washed it with warm water and dish washing soap, then hit it with a nice coat of Sentry Tuf-Cloth.

The sheath is nice and thick, great quality!

Told you I could use it as a neck sheath as well, and I saved 2 bucks.

It didn't come very sharp, but it only took a few minutes on my spyderco sharpmaker to get it shaving sharp.

Yes!

All in all I'm happy with the knife. Small enough with the sheath for me to put in my pocket, or I can where it on my neck or belt. With the paracord wrap, it feels really good in the hand. It's fun knife! They also have a larger one if anyone is interested, and for the same great price.

Nice pics...I purchased the small workhorse from them and I am very pleased. I think the Batwing will be my next purchase from BHK.

I would be intrested in a use review since it is tempting to get one. ( Also I would like to learn to spell :))

Husher: The Batwing is cool. I want to order one too, but $67 in my opinion is to much. I'm saving up for a few other knives right now, but maybe later on. If you get, post how you like it (and its practicality).

billstevens: What do you use as your internet browser? I'm not sure about Internet Explorer, but Mozilla Firefox has spell check. I use it all the time! :D I will post up a review once I get a chance to play with it. I have two big midterms coming up, so I have a lot to study. After I wrapped it, I did take it outside to test it on a couple dead branches. The only other knives I have in this size are folders, so it was nice to finally have the strength of a fixed blade in small knife. Also about 1 inch of the spine, from the tip, has a good edge, so I'm sure it will make some nice sparks on a firesteel. Won't know for sure until I get one. My only concern is rust...I might just patina the whole thing and forget about it, but I like the contrast of the satin finish and tiger stripes.

Great Post Mr.Pink, I ordered the exact same one a few days ago(although with the neck sheath, didn't have the imagination that you did!). Can't wait for it to get here. Can you give me some instructions on how you did that paracord wrap? I'm pretty new to knives so any detail or pictures would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the post, now I'm super excited for mine to arrive. If I'm pleased with its performance after a few months I might order a "Work Horse'' as my main bushcraft knife.

Thanks for the link, It still isn't 100% clear to me how they tie it up but I guess when I have the knife and the paracord in front of me, I'll be able to figure something out.

nice pics if you get a chance please give an update on the knife as far as are you happy with it, does it hold an edge well, will you send it to me for an extended evaluation, only kidding just thought i'd slip that in. nice knife.

Just got mine today!(yesterday technically, but I didn't have a chance to grab the mail:cool:)

My brother stole my camera or I'd snap some pics but its the same thing as what you have - The neck sheath is VERY cool and very high quality. Looks great with the lanyard and their logo stamped into it.

Mine came pretty damn sharp too, VERY sharp for a $20 knife. I don't have a sharpener yet, any suggestions on an idiot-proof sharpening unit?

I'd say Spyderco Sharpmaker. It sharpens all my v-grind edge knives except D2... and even then, it'll sharpen it enough to cut cold butter.

Thanks, I'll look into one. Would it work well on a classic Mora w/ laminated carbon blade? That knife is really the one thats going to get a lot of work this spring/summer.

I think I might just start out with a 2 sided diamond plate, something I can carry with me into the woods.

The Sharpmaker is fine for a Scnadinavian-ground Mora, but I use larger stones when grinding the Scandi grind and finish with a tiny micro-bevel on the Sharpmaker (using just a few very, very [that's two verys, don;t you know] fine strokes on the flat sides of the fine, white triangle rods).

You can use the Sharpmaker rods (flat sides of both medium and fine) to do the Scandi-grind, but I use 800 and up waterstones. The diamond stones you say you'll get would even be better.

Thanks for posting that link with the paracord wrap. I'm gonna give that a few tries. nice knife.

Here's the example from the site. The first picture is ONLY if you want to make a wrist loop. I didn't want that so I started on step 2 through 4. So essentially, you pick 1 or 2 then proceed to steps 3 and 4. It'll make sense when you try it.

I'll do a review of the knife when I get to use it more. It was pretty easy to sharp, so I think edge retention isn't great, but 2 minutes on the spyderco sharpmaker will bring it back.

As for an idiot proof sharpener (and versatile to), it doesn't get much better then the spyderco sharpmaker. You can get the knife shaving sharp, and requires little skill and practice. Do a search and you can find all the info you need.
