had just recieved tha medical letter and "crofab" is a new antivenom released on the market.

it is a sheep serum not horse serum, made from serum in sheep treated with western, eastern diamond back rattlers, mojave rattler, and cottonmouth. the serums are treated and combined to form a single antivenom.

initial studies appear to show that it is safer than the horse derived antivenoms. and appears to be highly effective.

the cost is $9300 for 12 vials.

although the package insert states that it should be refrigerated, it has been shown to be safe after 60 days stored at 122 degrees Farenheit.

just for your info

Thank you for the valuable information. I have written the name down on a small piece of paper next to my blood type, folded it and put it into my wallet. One never knows when or if a bite will take place.

HOLLY COW..... when I saw the price I got up, went out side and swept off the entire patio at break neck speed. That's $ 775.00 per vile !!! Then there is the emergency room cost, Doctor and other fees, follow-up visits and time missed from work. It must be the shelf life, a short period of time considering the amount of product made compared to waste vs. actual treatment claims.

The cost of a snake bit puts these reptiles on my WATCH OUT list.
Why can't I always clean off the patio at that fast pace. Thank you again for the info. FF
