NEW Social Media Dept - Now what do I do?

I established our new Social Media Department this morning. Now I could use a little help from those of you who can make maximum use of Facebook and of Twitter.

What can I do to get the most out of these methods of communication. Share it with everyone or PM or email to agr@agr3.com

Hire a FT employee just to keep up with that, then pray.....
 
I handle social network material for one client and all I can say is keep it interesting. dont just use it to sell stuff. Try to add some value. Interesting articles, links to news items, whatever. Competitions, etc also help. Keep it personal and try to find your unique voice. Encourage people to comment. All that good stuff...
 
People know that companies use social media for advertising. The less a person feels like they're reading advertising the better. Social media is a great platform for personal interaction and people love to feel like their voice is reaching someone who can help them, be it with problems or choices between products. One of the fastest ways to grow a following is a giveaway . One of the common ones in my area is "like us or follow us and be entered to win a gift card" then once a base of followers are established you can use social media to meet the needs of those followers. Social media can make or break a business based on word of mouth alone, so its important to create your brand or voice in a way that will be recognized and is welcoming. Make a few people happy and they will pass that on to their followers and friends and so on and so forth.
