New SOG Flash I

I received a new Flash I. The goal is to replace my little Gerber Ridge as my EDC so I don't have real high standards. The lock up on the SOG is just not very good, there is considereable play. Is this normal, I expected a little better for a $50 knife.

I've handled 3 Flash 2's and they all had play in both directions, and I've heard others report similar experiences, so it seems to be more than just your one knife that is affected.

This is fairly typical of the Flash series, as most of the models we have here in the store have some play to them as well. You might try adjusting the pivot pin slightly to see if that helps.

my flash II has zero play whatsoever. maybe i just got lucky?

They always do from the factory it seems. Some oiling and tightening of the pivot you can get it to lock up pretty well without sacrificing too much of the opening speed, but it is a compromise though.
