New SOG knives blades too hard?

Ron Anderson of SOG said in the SOG Forum that 62-64 was the optimal range for BG-42. If I understood what he said correctly.

Cliff- Ask Ron Anderson @ SOG. He can explain better than me.

The way I understood, hardnesses are good or bad for specific blade uses or designs, not depending on the type of steel it is. No steel will hold an edge at 30 hardness and none will resist breakage at 90. Period. I hope somenone will tell me if I am wrong, of course, but I do no think I am.

Optimum hardness also depends on the alloy and how the heat treatment is done. BG42 does well at 60 RC, but I don't think I've run across people using it at 62-64. That 64 seems awfully high to me.
