Hello,

I recently found out the Danish Special Forces
use a modified "Tanto-Point" SOG SEAL Knife 2000.

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of
this knife?

Thank you.

Obi Ron,

What's this all about? Yet another highly classified Blackworks project perhaps? Yeah, maybe that's just it. Shhh.. loose lips sink ships.

Krizzard, out.

Hi CQB,

I have no specific knowledge of what the DSF are using, but here are the only two tanto fixed blades we make (nothing with the SEAL Knife name in tanto): Tsunami and X-42 Recondo.

If you have further questions, shoot. Well, in you'd better just ask. :)

I might have been the original source of that information.

It is true, that they use a modified SOG SEAL 2000, modified locally to a Tanto-style point.
Apparently they had experienced a couple of tips breaking, so they decided to modify them tanto style.
Im proberbly going to visit a member later in the week and see if he has his issued knife at home, if I'll take a pic of it, but I doubt it, they just go back from Afghanistan, so most of the gear is proberbly on the base.

Please post a picture...or email it to me and I'll post it. I am not aware of such a knife and would like to see it! Modifying the knife as described would be quite difficult...if close to impossible.

Tip breakage is very, very rare on the SEAL Knives. A portion of my job here is to oversee all defective returns. I can probably count on one hand the number of tip breakages on this knife that have been returned to SOG in the last year. If the Danish military is having difficulties with our knives, they should get in contact with us.

Ron,

I'll see what I can do, but cant promise anything.
I heard it from a friend who is in there, havent seen his knife though, but he showed me, how they modified theirs, on mine.
They also stamp numbers into them, so they follow each operator. That shouldnt have been so damn easy, and rumor says, it doesnt look nice :)

From what I understand breaking tips are the very source of the tanto type blade. The tale I was told was that a katana broke in combat and it's owner, not willing to part with his blade, resharpened the broken end refining the chisel like tip into the first tanto. This could be entirely BS, but aparently that particular kinda knife damage does inspire tanto creation.

That said, owning a Seal pup myself I dont see tip breakage being that much of an issue even with the slimmer blade. Depends on what you do with it I guess.
