Just got a new SOG Super Bowie this week and noticed that the logo printed on it is different than I've seen not only on SOG's website but on online stores as well. The Logo near the hilt on mine is "SOG" in a large font and then "Super SOG Bowie" printed underneath it. On the other side it only has Taiwan printed in very small print. Has SOG setup the logo a couple different ways on these in the past few years? Not sure what year they came out.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I see that KnifeCenter.com now has a picture of the Super Bowie with the same logo config as mine......maybe they only did the bullet hitting the blade on the 20th anniversary edition....who knows.

Hmmmmm.. NOt sure but i normally only buy SOG vintage SEKI JAPAN stuff unless i find a good deal on the newer stuff.. I like all sog stuff but the SEKI stuff really impresses me.. You need to buy a vintage SOG S1 bowie so u can compare the 2... I have a booklet with the LOGO with the BULLET it came with my SOG S1 bowie which is 20 years old

I have most of SOG's Seki Japan blades, if you want to buy anything newer from SOG (most but not all) it's most likely going to be from Taiwan. There's nothing wrong with that as Taiwan has state of the art manufacturing facilities and can make great knives. Check out SOG's Tech Bowies, Spyderco's Sage series (and many, many others) and you'll see that they're has well made as any production knife out there today. It appears that the logo on the Super Bowie changed a bit after the run of 20th anniversary edition's were sold.

The Super Bowie is a pretty stout knife and actually feels better in the hand (due to the thicker/longer handle) than does the smaller Tech Bowie. If you do a search for it here you'll see some great pictures of the Super Bowie being tested and preforming very well.

Maddog,

Did someone at SOG tell you that they've changed their heat treatment or is this based on information not posted on their website?
I don't shoot my knives very often so I don't think this will be a problem. <grin>

Yes sog told me the super Bowie is not cryo treated. A good knife, I would like it cryo-nitrogen treated better.

Odd that they would bypass one of their heat treatment steps on one of their more expensive blades IF it makes much of a difference. From the reviews I've seen on on these forums nobody seems to have had ANY trouble with their Super Bowie's holding up while chopping oak or stabbing gators so I'm sure it'll work out just fine for me.

I will say that the Super Bowie has the most comfortable handle of any of my SOG knives. It's handle is longer and thicker than most and I haven't noticed any hot spots during prolonged use. They made the finger grooves a bit too close together for my hands but what happens is that your middle three fingers kinda just find a comfortable spot and my thumb and pinky rest beyond the grooves. It's nice blade.....as much as I love the Tech Bowie's (great knives) they feel rather small once I've been using the Super Bowie for a while.

SOG got back to me and the logo has changed over time and the one I have is the latest version.
