I really like the looks of this knife and it hits all my right buttons (lefty clip, lock, opening) but 100$ for VG-10 and Zytel just seems a little much.

I figure on waiting a little bit and then picking one up when the price goes down or getting a used one at the exchange.

Seems like a slightly lower quality 710 to me. Though it does have the flipper.

I like the blade length - for some reason there are very few 3.5 inch blades out there.

But it does seem slightly pricey at the moment, and also I think it weighs a little too much for its size.
The 710 - a bigger knife, with G10 scales - actually weighs less.

I don't know. Something about the design is too......busy? too many lines and curves and cut outs. Price seems a little high, maybe.

Remove the shark gills from the blade and put some nice G-10 scales on it and you might have something there.

The only thing that bugs me on this knife is the right side of the thumb stud & arc lock with the slotted screwdriver bit.it just makes it looks cheap ......

Interesting design and great steel. But I don't like the holes in the blade and I'm not a fan of SOG's Zytel.

VG-10 is great steel, one of my favorites and I really like the shape of that blade and the length. I EDC a BM710 and my only complaint with it is I wish it were a half inch shorter... 3.5" is just about perfect for EDC.

My only SOG is a Flash II and I don't really like it at all. The handle feels cheap and a little too flexible. This knife is lined so I'm sure it's a bit more sturdy but I just don't like the way SOG's zytel feels. G-10 would be very nice on this knife. Get rid of the finger grooves as well.

I see that this knife has the same pocket clip (or at least the same positioning) that the Flash II has, which is another thing I don't like. If they'd tap for mounting the clip between a quarter and half an inch up from the bottom of the handle the knife would be a lot easier to get out of the pocket.

I wouldn't pay $100 for it as is. Maybe $60. Spyderco can make lined FRN handled knives with VG-10 in the $50-$75 range, and I know the arc lock adds a bit to the price, but not that much.

It's a nice looking knife, but could be a little better executed I think.

I've got a SOG spec elite that I like a lot. Having said that of the three newest SOG designs I'm aware of I only particularly like one. That's the new Arcitech model. That's a very nice looking knife. The Vulcan is okay but looks a little pricey for what you are getting the Visionary uses the very cool blade profile from the Spec Elite... but then messes it up with a clunky looking handle. Still all in all I'm a pretty big fan of Sog knives... I really need to pick up one of those Arcitechs...

I actually got to play with a Vulcan at a trade show I was at a few weeks ago... The Vulcan was the knife that once everybody had picked it up, nobody wanted to put it back down again, it has a great feel to it. I will probably buy one. :)

One thing to keep in mind, price-wise, is that the Vulcan is built from .16" thick stock (via their website), not the .125" stuff that Spyderco uses in their Enduras, (which I'm not knocking, in any way), but I would suspect that the heavier stock increases the price of the knife. I'd like to see some user-reviews, but this knife definitely has my interest. In my experience, VG-10 is more forgiving than some of the other steels out there, and the heftier blade thickness should only increase that property, presuming SOG treats it right. Like I said, this intrigues me.

I've handled one and really like it. It is a real knife! It is on my buy list which probably means I'll buy it and the SOG XL at the same time. Just waiting for my usual dealer to carry the blade. I'll give them another month and then I'll buy it somewhere else if I have to.

Played with one and the clip has some sharp edges but overall a nice knife.
They are for sale NOW.

I think it looks like crap. I have not been impressed with anything SOG has made other than the Tomcat.

It does look a bit like a Boa. $100 is also way too much money for a knife with Zytel scales.

I just picked-one up.

Overall, it's a good piece. Nice lock-up, Super smooth opening.

I'm not into the steel-fad aspect of the hobby, so it's not an issue.

I don't think it looks like a Boa at all, the Vulcan blade isn't as recurved as it seems in the pics.

It is heavy for its size, though, and I'm not a huge fan of the "deep carry" style of pocket clips.

My initial impression:

SOG ripped off the Kershaw-Ken Onion Boa.

I read this on EVERY NEW knife introduction HERE :D

I think we can safely say all knives are copies of the sharp sticks that Cavemen made :p

And the Cavemen have a Patent
