Hey folks,

I just pulled the trigger on a new satin PE CQC14 Snubby. It was down to either the CQC14 or a Spyderco BG42 CF Military. 2 reasons pushed me towards getting the CQC-14:
1) I'm moving to LA, so the blade length seems appropriate, especially when compared to the Military:eek:.
2) I'm a huge Spyderco fan, mainly because of the ergos. So after reading literally dozens of threads (actually about 3 or 4 threads), the ergos on the Snubby seems to fit the bill.

One thing I haven't seen anything on about this knife- How does it ride and feel in the pocket?

The two knives you mention are about as far apart from one another as you can get. It's like saying it came down to a BMW or a helicopter. Just vastly different knives.

The CQC-14 has marvelous ergos. I wish Emerson would put a full size blade in that handle because the handle is so good. It will be thicker in your pocket than a Spyderco Military, but not problematic. It is a really neat knife I am sure you will greatly enjoy.

I agree:thumbup:. But these were 2 knives at the top of my "must have" list. On the note, the only other knife I was considering was a Fallkniven S1:D. Figure that one out.

I don't have much issue with carrying my Mini Manix in my pocket so it should be fine there. I'm really looking forward to this one. You Emerson fans should know that no other production knives in this price range other than Spydercos were appealing to me, at least enough for me to take the plunge to shell out some cash. Thanks for the input.

I was a Spyderco fan (still am) before getting into Emerson Knives. The biggest adjustment for me was getting use to the chisel-grind or the v-grind. Other than Spydercos, the knives I have the most of are Emersons. I'm not as big on liner-locks as I use to be so I had my old CQC-7B & Persian mod'ed with thicker liners. Of course there is always the Emerson framelocks. I got a CQC-12 at BLADE 07 and it is a great knife. The CQC-12 was a bit too big for certain EDC situations, so I just ordered a HD-7 to solve that problem.

The CQC-14 has great ergonomics & the blade is a good size for places with length restrictions. I know forum member STR has one that he mod'ed into a framelock.

i just sent the money away for my 14, i think i need to replace my military with something lil bit smaller.

Replace the Millie with a Para. The CQC-7 and HD-7 series are the perfect size for me.

Emerson's have the best ergo's in the business hands down. Even better then spyderco. If emerson used new up and coming blade steels and didn't paint or satin finish their blades they would be one of the top sellers in folding knives. But the way spyderco is running things with their exotic sprint runs and new inivative attitude I would give them the upper hand:thumbup:.I'm off
topic a little here anyways the snubby is a great edc it's small enough without
being to small. I like the 3/4 size handle best ergo's I ever handled no pun entended:o.If I was looking for a 3 1/2 and under folder I would go snubby for sure.As far as 4'' go's I couldn't answer that because there is just to much out there. I could name a favorite from my favorite companies for example spyderco military cpm s90v,emerson cqc-11,Kershaw zt 301.I hate to say the next one because I'm not a big fan for their steel or business practices, but here goes nothin COLD STEEL san mai 3 Hatamoto,I just love the way the blade is finished best grinds and polishing I've ever seen in a production folder.I don't get it top end fasteners titanium frame and bolsters and g-10 grip. But only aus8a or vg-1 core edge:confused::grumpy::mad::thumbdn:

I've held other Emersons before and the ergos didn't feel as good to me as other spydercos. But from the looks of the handle on the CQC-14 and the rave reviews on the ergos, I'm sure it'll be one of my favorites. I'm not a fan of the liner locks, but I'm not as concerned as some people are of them. I think more frame lock versions would really help the Emerson line a lot in terms of sales.

I do think new steels would entice people to check out more Emersons, but from a purely practical view, I don't think it matters much compared to the current steels Emerson is using. Full flat grinds would be really interesting though. The variety that Spyderco brings to the table (steel, grinds, generations, handle material, locks, ergos, sizes, new stuff) is what keeps a lot of the fans the zealouts that they are about Spyderco. Kershaw has been great about these things lately as well. I think not just Emerson, but a lot of the other knife companies could learn something from that.

Spyderco's evolution philosophy is very successful. Other Co.'s should see and learn. Ego can be a bad thing!

congrats. be sure to post some pics later. I need to expand my EKI collection one of these days. Actually, I need to expand my collection in general.
