Very beautiful!

In december or january we had Venus, Jupiter and the moon (the moon was covering venus) close together. Too bad most people didn't look up and those who did wondered why the 2 bright "stars" (;)) were close together - they didn't know what they were seeing.

I hope the sky gets clear again soon, I still need to see the comet Lulin. It's visible with naked eyes at the moment and it should loose brightness soon.

I remember that, it was the first time I've knowingly seen Jupiter. I was impressed but this photo is fantastic!

Flat land, clear skies, great view. Where I live, hills and trees obscure some of the horizon, but more damaging is the incredible amount of light pollution in this northeast corridor. Add the high humidity most of the year and the skyshow is dimmed to the point people don't bother trying to learn it.

Many parts of the world are seriously overlit for sky viewing: Earth at Night

Nice shot indeed!

(is that Uranus I see in the foreground? <childish snicker:D>)

We get some great views down here on the better side of the planet.

Just yesterday I was watching an incredible red sunrise through strips of purple cloud.

(No, there were no drugs involved.)

This photo of the event you refer to was taken on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales:
