Hey Guys:
I hope everyone at bladeforums had a wonderful holiday season. I've recently taken the plunge on a new Slysz Bowie and it should be to me by late next week. I have been looking at this model since it was first intoduced and had narrowed my decision down to either this model or the CRK unm. Please let me know if you think that this was the smart choice. Keep in mind, that I have previously purchased three Spyderco models in the last year and they have dominated my pocket time/edc rotation. My only concern with this new knife has to do with long term reliability and how the Slysz Bowie will hold up over time given normal everyday edc tasks. If I maintain the knife. How well will it hold up? Several of my friends tried to steer me toward the CRK model as a twenty five plus year user. They own and carry Chris Reeve knives and absolutly love them. Hopfully I'm not over thinking this investment.

Any feedback regarding this post and my concerns will be greatly appreciated.

You're over thinking it way too much. It's a production knife, not a one off from a custom knife maker. Everyone like different things, that is what makes the world go round. Like is too short, so just buy what you like. There really are much more important things out there that deserve this sort of attention.

I have the bowie but have never even seen a CRK in person, so take what I say with a grain of salt. The bowie is a solid little knife. I wouldn't say it's hard use, but it's certainly quality materials. The edge is pretty thin, as it should be on a slicer, and the tip is really ground fine. I like the steel better than CRK's S35. I don't really like the wire clip, but we'll we how it holds up and maybe there will be some aftermarket options for a different clip. I think it certainly has the potential to last a long time, but I think that every person's use will dictate how long that may be...

I had an Umnumzaan and I loved it. Were it not a frame lock I would still have it and be carrying it everyday, unless I was going to be doing dirty stuff in the woods or something. That knife was so solid and perfectly balanced. It was smooth as butter and a pleasure to own. I just don't get along with framelocks. Once bitten twice shy if you know what I mean
