Just received two new Spec Op brand sheaths, one large, one small. Planned to remove liners , heat and shape..noticed that there is no longer a bolt through the liner or drain hole..Seems there is Velcro holding the liner in place...Have yet to remove, its a bitch and Im considering returning, as Im not sure I want to deal w/ reapplying Velcro (assuming I will have remove prior to heating).

I assume the bolt was causing issue..making contact w/ blades, this is why the change..?

Should I just rip these things out..see how it goes..afraid of destroying and ultimately not using, not able to return..Custom Kydex insert, maybe..? Ahh,..I dont know..

Any insight would be appreciated..

Thanks

Apologies if this is the wrong sub..Please move if so.

Have you considered a heat gun to try to make the contour?

The issue is breaking the liner free of the sheath...Seems velcro is now being used instead of the previous bolt, quite a bitch to remove.. It was suggested that a steel ruler, worked down between liner/sheath, works..

...Main concern is once the liner is removed..will heating, with any method, cause the velco attatched to the liner to come off and need to be re applied after heating..probably glued in place i imagine, ..small things, but........I need to get the liners out first and take a look..Just debating on sending them back before I potentially trash them or ending up not happy w/ results..

I like the heat gun Idea..

I get that. I was thinking directing the heat with the heat gun away from the Velcro might get you your wanted results. Regardless if you are able to remove the liner with the steel ruler you could just keep that part away from the boiling water or whatever heat source you decide to use.
