Just came in the mail...

It would be nice if you could write a synopsis as not to force people to watch the video. This is after all a discussion board not a video board.

I'm ready for the smaller one, hopefully they re-release it also. Heard some great things about that MBS steel.

Force? I don't recall forcing anyone to do anything...

I have posted video in the past, like other members, and have gotten positive comments... Pleas let me know If I broke a rule as that wasn't my intent. I just wanted to share something new to me with others who share the same hobby.

Not bad at all. Looks like I've finally found an angle to get my wife interested in Spyderco's.

My second Spyderco knife was one of their serrated kitchen knives. I'm glad they are bringing these out again!

We have a pair of these (SE, PE) in the kitchen. They're wicked sharp and very handy. My wife wishes it was 4", I would rather have 8" (no comments, boys ;) ). One unexpected thing: these are exceptionally flexible knives. With a slightly shorter spine to edge dimension they'd be outstanding filet knives. Maybe not too surprisingly, they don't make great bread knives - too much deflection in most breads. At the price, I'd give them 4.5 or more stars.

Buddy of mine still has the 4.5 inch and 8 inch-ish versions of these from the 90s. Hopefully they will release them again in various lengths.

Thanks for the video Smokinape. Nicely done. We've recently taken delivery of one of the plain edge and two of the Spyderedge knives in this model. They do come pretty sharp. I'm able to slice printer paper and shave hair with our new plain edge. Soft tomatoes, a little bit. I'm going to play with the edge to see what we can do. We've had two with the Spyderedge for probably ten years or more and they are used every day in the kitchen despite having their handles chewed half off by puppies years ago (would have purchased new ones if they had been available). The MBS steel has held up very well and is very easy to maintain being stainless. This is one of the very, very few times my wife has agreed with my ordering of new knives and it was only because she knows first hand how well they function and hold up in the kitchen. Looking forward to some of the other models. Mike

I'd love to see some Spyderco kitchen knives. But to compete with KAI's Shun knives they'll need to redesign their handles a bit and produce the blade preferably in VG10. The handle on this knife looks like one that would be on a utility knife not a chef's knife.

He probably meant that if people wanted to hear what you had to say about it, they'd have to watch the video. Since this is a discussion board, that might not be what they expect.

I do agree that it'd be nice if you could also include a synopsis or an overview! :)

Thanks for the feedback...

I may have been looking at the wrong knives, but the Kershaw Shun knives I found with VG10 blades were a lot more expensive than these Spyderco kitchen knives. The Kershaw knives that are competitive on price have similar synthetic handles and AUS6 blades. Did I miss Kershaw knives with VG10 blades in this price range?

There is no shortage of affordable kitchen knives available. I don't think anyone would object to see some really high end chef knives from Spyderco that could give Shun some competition.
