I think you guys have gained another supporter for Spyderco knives.

Went with the much praised Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with a black handle and well, my initial feelings toward the knife are all good.

I like smaller knives but this one doesn't feel all that big in the hand. I'm comparing it to my large Sebenza and even though they are almost equal in length when open it just feels smaller and I mean that in a good way. Could be that the blade is a little bit smaller or just the overall design and shape of the handle and blade.

Loving the spydie hole. The opening and closing of the blade is not as smooth *right out of the box* as my Sebenza's or Mnandi's but with that giant hole it is very easy to open and operate. Don't think anyone ever compliments the thumb studs on a Sebenza. They are not hard to use but not as easy as a spydie hole.

Will have to go buy some tools to take the clip off and make it tip up carry but no biggie there. Need some more tools anyway.

A minus for my Paramilitary 2 is that right out of the box there is some very slight side to side blade play. It is very little and I will have to see if I can get rid of it by tightning the pivot or if that is the way it will stay. To be continued...

Very sharp right out of the box as one would expect and people generally agree on this.

This isn't a comparison post to the Sebenza as it might seem but it is only because that is what my collection consists of primarily and the knife I carry every day whether it be the large or small. I prefer the small Sebenza and that is why I'm suprised how much I like the Para2 size or the way it handles compared to the large Sebenza.

Blade is dead center which is nice and what I've been used to having with my knives.

Blade retention is very good but with enough speed I can open it up. Not an issue for me because the retention it has will keep it from opening up in my pocket and that is all I care about.

Lock was a bit different than I'm used to. I'm used to frame locks/liner locks and when I go to close the knife I keep trying to close it like it has a frame lock.:D Other than that so far it is not difficult or annoying to engage and close the knife.

Man, I'm just rambling. Really I just wanted to say that I am happy with the knife and you guys are right about the feel and quality of this knife. Will have to check out a Spyderco military and depending on how much I continue to like this knife I may be picking one up soon.

Welcome to the world of Spyderco, and your first knife is a very good choice. You'll soon realize that Spydies are meant to work, and form follows function - when I started out, I found Spyderco designs to be crude, but soon found out that the leaf-shaped blade (on many knives), and the ergonomics of the knife are second to none. The choil, the jimping, and everything is done to a great perfection, unlike many other big brands where looks of the blade are given a priority.

+1 for the hole, I find it easy to open than the studs - it really depends on the shape and size of your hand, and the size of the knife as well. And its very personal opinion, so don't fight with anyone over it - the fight will not end. Haha.

Bought some torx screwdrivers and tightened the pivot screws and now there is no more blade play.:D

I'm very excited about this knife and how it will handle this coming weekend's fishing/camping trip.
