Hey guys, I just got my new Para 2 in the mail! It's my first spyderco and I'm really loving it so far. I just have one question for you all. Is the lockup on my para 2 too late? most of the ones I've seen on youtube and such have a really early lockup when brand new. Just wondering if its something worth worrying about or if its normal. Here's a pic. Thanks a lot.

Looks normal for a compression lock.

BTW, congrats on your first spyderco. You made a great choice. I really love mine.

I have 4 P2s right now and have handled several more. I would say that looks OK. I have noticed that with the P2s I have handled there is a pretty big variation in lockup, blade play, smoothness, detent, etc. The one I carry the most looks just like yours and I have probably flicked it open thousands of times and the lock hasn't moved at all.

Looks normal for a compression lock.
^^This. Although the compression lock may look a bit like a liner lock from above, the way it works is completely different, so the standards of "early" and "late" lockup that you'd use to judge a liner or frame lock don't apply.

Enjoy the Para 2 -- superb choice for your first Spyderco!

Argh i wish there was a Military 2, with the same improvements from para 1 to 2.

Cool! Just me being paranoid again then :D thanks guys.
Ideed. Judging the compression lock in terms of a frame lock or frame lock doesn't really work. If you look closely at the lock interface, you will see a ramp on the tang. The lockbar has to cross that ramp in order to be "late".

thanks for all the replies fellas, I am really loving this knife! fits like a glove :D And I agree Frozy, I think a military 2 would be pretty sweet, a bit too big of a blade for me though.
