My new Spyderhawk came today! First one I ever have had, man these things are way bigger than my Tasman. No jimping on these, why is that? Love the H1 steel on my Tasman so this should another great knife though. Who has experience with the Spyderhawk? I'm under the assumption that H1 holds an edge longer than VG-10 does on serrated edges, is that right?

In the summer I always carry one of these while swimming, but it still gets plenty of use in the winter. You will never find a better tool for peeling oranges than a fully serrated Spyderhawk. Cut the peel around the diameter of the fruit, and then scrape the peel off in two halves.
The SE blade gives excellent depth control in the initial cut, and doesn't grab the meat when you scrape off the peel.

That's the first black Spyderhawk Salt I've seen. The catalog says it is available in yellow only. I guess it's wrong.

I mostly use my Spyderhawks for gardening/pruning type chores. The H-1 does seem to stand up to that better than VG-10 in serrated format.

I belive I recall sal saying,''h1 serrated preforms as good as any other steel we have,pe similar to aus 8''. Well I have a pe spyderhawk I used at work for christmas trees last november and dec and I had to sharpen it once a week . I have to say I didn't buy into that work hardening thing at first but when I put it threw the paces on sharpmaker to no avail I started to belive.I. then put it threw paces on 30 to 40 degrees nothing ,I'm assuming cause the steel is getting harder. So I broke out my diamonds ran it threw 30 to 40 again on all stones and diamonds and its popping hair again finally. I start back up at my plant nursery next week and can't wait to see if my assumptions are right and this thing will start holding an edge the way I want it to

I did dye it. I just couldn't stand the yellow. Boiled a couple inches of water in a pan just wide enough to accept the closed knife and threw about 3 capfuls of RIT denim blue dye in there. Then took it off the heat and put the knife in there right away for about 25 minutes stirring it around often. Rinsed it off and scrubbed the whole thing with detergent and a nylon brush to remove the left over dye. It came out great, even though I used real dark blue, it came out the exact shade of Spyderco factory black FRN which is fine by me. That RIT stuff seems to penetrate the FRN really well. I wet this thing a few times yesterday, put oil on the pivot, ect. and it doesn't show any signs of bleeding the color.

I just got a tasman salt, my first H1 knife, and first hawkbill. I think it's great, I love not having to worry about corrosion, and so far, the edge is holding up pretty well!

H1 is strange to me, it feels a lot different than any other steel I have used so far, and I like it! I also love that the salt series doesn't have nested liners (a true featherweight knife), and I did the older style clip more.

Got my Spyderhawk Salt couple of months ago. Was looking for a knife that could easily cut through crab line if caught in my prop. Ordered the Atlantic Salt yesterday for my other pocket.
