Yeah, I know. I don't do stainless very often or this much file work but, it was a special request from a good customer. This is one of my "Titan" neck knives streched out a bit for a belt knife. The knife is just over 6" of hand-rubbed ATS-34 with a 2 1/2" edge, and heat colored file work (where the handle ain't). The scales are mammoth ivory with mosaic pins.

I don't care if it is stainless - I like it ;)

I've seen that sort of butt cap deal before. Not exactly that shape. I think it's really cool!

Isn't it scary using mammoth? I have some pricy stuff and I'm too afraid to cut it.

nice job J and I like that Ivory too...
welcome to the advanced world of SS :footinmou :D :o :)

Thanks guys. I only do about a half dozen stainless pieces a year. It's good stuff but, I just like forging too much. I've just started using more ivory these last couple months and it's not as bad to work as I thought it would be. You just have to make sure not to get it hot and use sharp bits/belts. Aside from that it's not that bad at all. You'd have no problems Steve.

Nice knife design, J. I like the full belly sweep on that one. Yeah mammoth and pearl both give me fits, but for me all it takes is to calm myself down. I have slow down, find my center, take a few deep breaths and then I can work on the ticklish stuff! :D

Thats some purdy blade J. Looks like a lot of time in the file work. The ivory is beautiful. Great job!

Wow! Again. :D J that's one cool knife; I dig the filework and the overall shape and - everything! Even SS. Hell, soon as I can spring for that HT oven, I'm going to branch out too! :D

Another fine job.

When you do Dave, let me know. I have a freind (Keith Bagley) HT the ATS-34 for me (he does good stainless cutters on a regular basis). He's got this oven that looks like R2-D2 from Star Wars. I use to do 440C in the forge but, ATS is more popular (it seems) and when I have to do it, that's what's requested more often than not. I wish I could do ATS in the forge, but then I'd have to do more of it. :(
Gimme 5160 or 1084 anytime. ;)

very , very fine work ! I feel so fortunate to be among such Master Craftsman. Thanks for the pics and the inspiration to reach as high as so many of you have come.

Hey, everybody is allowed outside the fence now and then.
Great piece there J.
Got any snow over there? bruce

You kidding Bruce? I almost put Siberia on my return address. ;)

Thanks guys, your the best and my greatest inspiration.
