Hey All,
Been a little slow in the shop, which is good, so I had some time to work on some of my stuff ive been neglecting. Awhile back I was showing a handle job I did on my Parang, when I got these they had plastic handles on them and no sheaths, my first one I did a sheath out of pvc pipe as shown in a pic and now I needed to do one for my other, I am embarrassed to even show you what it was in, but it did the job until now. I recently picked up a basketweave stamp and started messing with it, but its a very hard stamp to do and do right, so who better to practice on then my own stuff. It came out ok but im not very happy with it and would never send it out like this, some uneven lines. I left the D-ring open and plan on using a carabiner to hook it up to either a pack or belt. I do like the look though.

Here is the one with plastic handle and pvc sheath

Here is the new one,

And now just so there is some HI content in this post,:D:D

Lookin' good! That is a large basket weave, I bet the stamp itself is pretty big as far as stamps go.

Very nice! I made some shell border stamps from big framing nails and even the edge stamps give me trouble now & then. That looks good.

Your sheath work looks great!

I'm also interested in the original plastic handle. What do you think it's made of? Could that be recycled plastic from milk jugs or some such? If so, I wonder how they worked it?

Thank you gents,
The stamp actually is not that big, it only does what would look like a half a weave, you have to over lap and try to keep it straight.
Im not sure what they used to make the plastic handle, but you might be on to something Howard, they are very crafty people. I can tell you that they burned them on and pinned them. They don't feel to bad in hand, but you have to rough them up some as they feel slippery.

Really nice pattern. It does make the sheath look better. Keep up the good work.

Real nice work, with ALL versions. My inexperienced eye couldn't see any flaws in the basket stamping.
The PVC pants look right at home in someplace like Waynes Alaskan rainforest, where leather gets rotten, IIRC.

Thanks for sharing,
Mark

Pugs, that is looking great. If you ever need to practice with it more. Feel free to let me know. You could leave your "House Stamp" off the back if it didn't turn out up to your usual perfection and I would say it was from some noob instead of ever admitting it was from you. :D Seriously though I do like that look, but it must be a heck of a lotta work if the actual tool is that small.

OOOOh Man! Howd i miss this thread? Thats sweet Pugs! I dont see anything wrong with that job! Id sport that anyday! OK now show us the head of your ball peen hammer. I think you been filing some basket grooves in it or something:D

Thank you, well that's a good start if ya cant see em but alas im so critical of my work, the pvc was a cool idea and yes for wet conditions it works great and was cheap and easy to do.

Thanks Shavru, im gonna practice some more before I offer it, and yes its a bit of work to do as you only do about a half a weave each strike.

Thanks man, there are some flaws there for sure, what hammer I have no hammer lol

Pugs, good job. Doing a Basketweave is hard, especially when the area is so large. :) Bet that took a while. I've only tooled a basketweave on up to 6" sheath knife sheaths. My hat's off to you.

Man thank you, it took a bit for sure. I think my next job will be a tad shorter. Thanks Again
