I talked to Bruce at Crucible Steel this week and he told me about a new blade steel which should be out around the first of the year.It will be a CPM version of 154CM,with some vanadium added. It should be a big improvement over ATS-34 and the old 154CM.No info on pricing yet,but it should be a bit cheaper than CPM S30V - and nearly as tough.

RWL-34 competetion. That is good news.

Since it is of their partical technology and it has some vanadium they might could call it CPM 154V.

sneak some to the trackrock hmr-in, perhaps? :D

My guess is that they will carry both until the new steel has a proven sales record (and the sell all of the old steel). The idea,I think,is to eventually replace 154CM. Maybe there will be a sale on the old stuff.

I would see little reason to discontinue a direct competitor to ATS-34. After all they are tooled for it, it is a U.S. steel, and its probably suited for things the partical version may not be.

The two steels ' 154cm and s30v, are made by different processes and will then have different costs .Much of the advantage of s30v is due to the even distribution of very fine carbides .Like everything else it will come down to cost vs performance.
