I have some M2 and 26C3 from Alpha Knife Supply and was wondering what the heat treatment and tempering process for these are? Can I use my propane forge and warm canola oil?

M2 no, 26C3? sure, but may leave a lot more to be desired without better temperture control and faster quenchant.

The reason why folks recommend lower carbon, non air hardning, plain alloys(<0.80%C) for folks with less temp control is because you can easily grow grains too large and put wayy too much carbon in solution making a brittle low quality blade.
