When do you guys thing that CRK will go to a newer/better steel. Not that there is anything wrong with s30v but there is some new steels out that are outperforming it such as zdp-189 and that duratech stuff hinderer recently switched to.

Chris helped in the development of S30v, so I doubt you will see a change. Also, even though ZDP-189 can be hardened to 67Rc without becoming brittle, it's my understanding that it's not very corrosion resistant. I read this somewhere, maybe in Blade magazine. With 20% chromium I WOULD think it to be very stain resistant, but they say not. I guess you have to have the best of both worlds in a blade steel if you're(CRK) are making the worlds finest frame lock!
:)

I know that Mr. Reeve was involved in the CPM S30V steel project, but I missed out on the BG 42 CRKs....I'd like to see a special run of sebenzas in the BG steel. I guess my real option is to locate an old one for sale.

:)

I liked BG42 better. I think it is one of the best steels out there.

i know there are alot of mixed reviews about s30v and a ton of dicussion about s30v vs bg-42 but there are alot of posts for that.

I was just asking if anyone thinks that the crk will change steels anytime soon because i dont want to spend the money on a sebenza and have a new steel come out a few months later.

Also i know that s30v is a good steel and i am in now way comparing the sebenza to the native but it bothers me some to spend $400 on a sebenza when i could get the $40 dollar spyderco walmart native with the same steel. I again say im not comparing the two knives just the fact that they boty use S30V

I think it would be a pretty safe bet that CRK won't change steels. In fact they may never change steels again. Just my opinion of course, I do fine with the S30V.

It might be several years, but I think they will eventually change the steel they use. CRK is a leader in the industry as far as quality and innovation goes, and they will continue to lead the way in design and meterials. Who knows what the Sebenza will look like and be made of in ten years? I just look forward to what Chris and company will come up with next.

I bet you're right! A change will happen...but not right away IMO.

From what I've seen, Chris is not someone who makes light changes. If he sees a clear need for a change he'll think twice and change once. My own experience with S30V is that it does a good job holding an edge and it's not as difficult to sharpen as the other stainless steels are. If it is shown that a clear improvement has been made over S30V I'm sure he'll consider it carefully, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I still have an ats34 one. The bg42 ones arent THAT hard to find. Why not post a "wanted ad" ?

I guarantee you get some hits!:D

I would get a BG-42 Sebenza immediately if it were possible.

It is strange that Chris is making all variations with handles, and not with steel.

Maybe a sprint run as suggested, or a possibility to choose between S30V and BG-42.

Being a Spyderco fan I own a BG-42 Carbon Fiber Military and I know why I ask for BG-42.

But let me make clear: I do not say anything against S30V - in fact I have Spyderco Native, Manix, and MiniManix in S30V.

I agree with St.James!! :) CRK IS a leader in the industry!!

I think thats why i asked the question though. CRK is a LEADER in the industry and CRK has lead the knife world into using s30v and it is a good steel im just asking when CRK is going to lead us into another steel especially because they are being passes by other companies steel wise.

Good point FRANCO about CRK using variotions in handles but not in steels.
