New steels and CPMs from Latrobe?

Hi All,

To keep knife steel chart up to date, I periodically revisit steel maker's websites, I have a few dozen bookmarked already.
I was going through the Latrobe documents last night. For some reason they offer CPM steels now. Few old ones disappeared (Mega 4, EMV2), new ones showed up Corsair, Stark(equivalents of AISI high speed) etc. Added them to the chart.

Anyway, Crucible site is up, they offer CPM steels. Does anyone know if Latrobe started making those CPMs (1V,3V,10V,15V) under license or this is somehow connected to earlier Crucible bankruptcy or they just sell Crucible steel?

Latrobe has become one of the distributors of Crucible steel. Niagara is the other.

There are several places to buy CPM knife steel now. We sell sheet to Midwest Knives, Admiral Steel, SB Specialty, Jantz, Pops, Sheffields and the NJ Steel Baron. I apologize if I left anyone off the list.

The guys at Niagara have been beyond excellent to deal with in my experience. I've never bought anything directly from Latrobe or Carpenter though.

They recently provided some Cruware for a project I hope to get into a passaround when finished.

Am gonna need help with this one though. :)

Thanks Bob!

Bob's the president of Niagara and the guy we get our Crucible steels from. They do a good job.

Our website is www.nsm-ny.com. You will get a better idea of what we do once you see the site.

We buy billets or slabs from Crucible and hot roll it into sheet. Latrobe also buys from Crucible to make plates, bars and rounds. We, Niagara, sell directly to individuals but we really count on the distributers to do the heavy lifting. We are a fairly small facility and we could not possibly keep up with supplying all of the individual cut pieces. We focus on making the sheets to supply the distributers and production companies.

Sal and Joe, thanks for your kind words.
