New Strider SNG - When?

I just learned about the Strider SNG line of knives and am considering getting one. When does Strider Knives unveil new knives? Every year? Are they going to unveil a new SNG at the SHOT Show in January perhaps?

The reason I ask is because I don't want to buy a new Strider SNG only to find out that a new version is right around the corner.

Their product line is pretty static so you are safe. New items they come out with like the 3.4 grind models sre pretty random. There are some Strider specific forums out there you may wanna search for

From my experience, the overall design of the SnG hasn't changed. There are periodic runs in different blade grinds, like the 3/4 grind that was mentioned and different blade coatings i.e. black oxide. Other than those occasional releases you have the standard Strider SnG offerings. My favorite being the Stonewashed variants. Of course there are the custom SnGs that pop up as well, but they are pricey. Check around with distributors to see what is out there...they don't stay in stock too long.

I highly doubt they will make any changes to the SnG. If you want one go ahead and pick one up.

The only change I've heard of is that they are supposed to release a framelock AR.

they dont ever change much, they dropped the bos heat treat and went to thier own heat treat (IIRC exactly the same as bos does it) and IIRC dropped the hinderer stabiliser on the new ones, so some would say old is good with SKI, i know if i was gonna get another SnG i would prefer a gen 6 w/black G10, digi camo, hinderer stabiliser & bos marked vs newer ones, but really it isnt gonna matter much in the long run.

point being if ya think they will come out with something radically different from the one they make now, or one thats really better, i doubt it.

look at a hinderer '18 if ya like the SnG, a bit pricier but a better knife imho, better F&F mostly being the reason, & its got the hinderer stabiliser still.

not to knock the SnG, which is, imho, one of the better edc knives around.

Yep, you described to a 't' the configuration I've had my eye on. I wish SNGs had thumb studs though instead of relying on a gaping hole in the blade. Just a personal preference...

i like the hole better probably,

i have had a few SnG's with different blades, G10 color and coatings and that one is my fav, pics dont do the digi justice it looks a lot better in person vs a pic, the 1st one i got i handled before i bought or i wouldnt have ever gotten the digi lol.

do ya live in austin tx, i live in round rock?

I lived in Austin briefly several years ago and that's when I came up with the screen-name "Austinguy23". It stuck. I'm in Houston now though...

The more I look at the Hinderer, the more I like it. The configuration I'd probably prefer on that knife (without seeing any in person) is probably a 3" black flipper with tumbled blade. The prices seem pretty outrageous for Hinderers right now though, so it's doubtful I'll ever get one unless I come across a screaming deal. There's a gun show in Houston Saturday; hopefully I can see some Strider SNGs, Sebenzas, and Hinderers.

if you look hard enough ya can find a std hinderer for $650 or so, maybe $700-ish, but it does take some time.

they have really gotten a lot more popular the last yr or 2 thus the higher prices i almost swapped for one a couple of yrs ago and i sure wish i woulda done it now lol.

they cost a bit more but they will hold value well too, striders do too i suppose, i just really like the hinderers F&F better, and being able to swap out the handle colors is neat too, though the handles arent cheap, am gonna have to get one myself one of these days,

whats worse, trafffic in austin or houston lol?

$700ish? Yikes...I was hoping for around $500. Traffic in Houston is definitely worse, unfortunately...as is the humidity :( We're due for our earliest snow on record later this afternoon though...damn that global warming haha

while i have seen some LNIB '18s go for $500-ish they seem to all (or most anyway) run more into the $600s the last few months, imho demand has really gotten higher on them, of course it could go down after a while.

traffic in h-town is a bit worse than austin, a coupla yrs ago a bud who lives in palmer alaska called and it was actually cooler in austin that day vs palmer, he said everyone up there was saying "global warming/etc, then a blizzard hit the week after lol.

I went to the High Caliber Gun & Knife Show here in Houston yesterday (Saturday) and was hoping to see some Hinderers, Sebenzas, or Striders. No one had any! This was a really big show, too. I may check it out again tomorrow.

A little off topic here (oh well, it's my thread) but I finally handled some Kahr firearms. I never cared for their appearance but the ergonomics are awesome and they're so thin - excellent for concealed carry (my Glock 33 is a bit bulky). I also drueled over the H&K P2000SK as usual...maybe some day :)

those poly kahrs are top notch, until i found my PM9 i thought a glock 33 was the bomb for edc, they are just so much slimmer and lighter,

i like those H&K's too,
