In the Nov 2003 edition ( yet it is only Sep ?? ) of Tactical Knives they have an article on the NEW Marine Specs Ops ( MCSOCOM ) Folder by STRIDER. The article claims this will be the "Official Duty Knife Of New Socom Unit". It seems to be a poor man's version of the Sebenza yet they are planning to charge civilians US$ 400 - US$ 450 for one.

Why not just do it all in Titanium and get the best for a small upgrade fee ? In other words, SEBENZA.

JackBoots, I go for the Sebenzas myself, but the truth is, they are just different knives for different purposes. One is for cutting and the other is for hard use in the field. The Sebenza can take a lot of stress, but the Strider is designed to be a general purpose knife, to chop and dig and pry. And, face it, some guys buy them because they look like that :)

Ummmmmm, Funnel Cake... :)

Yes, they are different. If you are like me and get off on extreme precision and amazing fit and finish, the Sebenza is probably the way to go, if you like the overbuilt and rugged good looks of the Strider, its not a bad knife either. I think the Sebenza is the higher quality knife, and there is no doubt that you are more likely to receive a perfectly made Sebenza than a perfectly made Strider, however, i do like the design and overbuilt qualities of the Striders and if you do get a good one, it can be a very well made knife. You'll obviously have to get both. :)

This question is sort of like comparaing a Ranger Rover to a Hummer 1. The Sebenza, like a RR, is smooth, refined, great attention to detail, and is also very capable off road, whereas the Hummer is a little crude in comparison, less refined, its not a luxury car, its a tank with wheels and also very capable off road. Both will get you there, do you like the comfort and refinement of the RR, or the balls to the wall, overbuilt, agressive looks of the Hummer? Personal choice. I can't decide, so i have both. :)

One advantage of the Sebenza is that its designed to be easily taken apart for cleaning and greasing, the Strider isn't hard, but you need a special wrench to do it.

I think that the large left hand regular Sebenza is the best production knife around. Try as I might, I can't get Strider to make a left hand folder. Today at Blade Show West I saw a custom Strider nightmare and it was cool! That was a cool blade. The heft of the Striders just don't fit my style. They seem very rugged. When they make a southpaw I'll get one but for now I will settle for my Sebenza. And I really like that knife (the Sebenza)!:D  ;) :p

I have a small Sebenza and a big Woodie Sebenza that I use very often. I also have a Strider SNG as one of my EDC. G-10 (one of the handle slab of the SNG) is not as exotic as titanium, but it offers a great advantage for me; it is more scratch-proof than the titanium slab on my Sebenza. Also, it offers better grip.

As to function, I tend to believe that the SNG is a better user. The pivot is bigger than the one on Sebenza, and IMHO, it provides more durability. The lock on my SNG is really hard to close even though I open and close it 3-4 times a day. It was used regularly by the previous owner. This lock makes me feel safer in using the knife. Even one of my friend (a guy) had a very hard time in closing the knife. Like it was said before, apples and oranges. Gent's knives and 'combat' knives.

The best analogy so far is Megalobyte's but I would have compared the Sebenza to a Cadillac Escalade myself.

Sebenza/Escalade: Refinement, pure and simple. Totally smooth and efficient in every way. Graceful and elegant that is designed to be a street ride that is capable of heavy use but not designed specifically for it. Will handle your every day tasks and then some with no problems.

Strider/Hummer: Balls out hardcore! Designed for heavy and hard constant use that will never leave you hanging. Overbuilt and tank like. Can also be a smooth and comfortable street ride but not really designed for it either. Will handle everyday tasks but will stick out like sore thumb while in public, will also handle your not so everyday tasks, your wild and crazy tasks, and your straight up unheard of tasks.

So you see the comparison between the two is not really valid, they are not in the same class of knife.

Hey Scott Dogg, they have made some lefties.... but they are those custom nightmare ones.
