New style box, logo and stand offs

Liking the stand offs and the symmetrical handle screws a lot. So I went about selling off my back spacer models. I have the newer CQC 7A, and just ordered a new A -100. Next on the list I'll be holding out for another run of Mini A-100's and hopefully coming soon, a Mini Aftershock. The new boxes and logo are a nice touch too.

I've done the opposite - only standoff model I own is the 20th Anniversary Commander (but it has center-scale screws). I much prefer old school backspacer Emersons.

^^^Actually technically that is not true on second thought; I do own a standoff CQC-13BT, but it is a pass around knife that I have going on another forum.

In terms of reliability, it seems to me there is no difference between spacer and stand-offs.
So the question is in taste.

Current standoff models offer some functional benefit from both a manufacturing and upkeep perspective. If you strip the threads on a standoff, you simply swap it out for another. Stripped threads on a liner is a more difficult matter to fix. Not having to tap liners speeds manufacturing.

My preference for backspacer style is that it is the way vintage Emerson's were made.

I don't mind standoffs, on some models they look really good, I just don't like the look of the new style pivot screw. I just can't warm up to it, I don't know why.

If more new models would come out with the original pivot screw then I'd start buying new again.

While we are at it, how 'bout more of these pivots?

BINGO!

If they would just bring back the Specwar A and B with that 20yr Commander configuration I'd be all over it.

I love the double-dome pivot and triple-scale-screws.

I definitely prefer the back spacer. Before I thinned the collection I tried to find older back spacer models. I think the only things I have with standoffs at this point are Kwaikens and the Stealth. And a standard RH.

Amen brother...

Ya buddy!

Now why these are not in regular production is something I'll never understand. We just have to hope Mr. E finds another mystery box full of blades so he makes more re-issue Specwars.

Or why a full custom Specwar has never been made? Or at least I've never seen it. I'd want one more than a 6.

Or this... my holy grail:

Sorry for the thread derail...

It should be mandatory for one to retain their first Emerson.:thumbsup:

Those "new" Specwar knives were made with blades from early 2000's. They found a lost box of blades that were not finished and decided to make them into new knives. So there is some vintage hiding under that blade coating.

Some blades were finished and say 2001 on them. One was here and sold recently, but I missed it!

I like the new ones, and I want to get one or more. The various color G10 is very cool. Specwar might just be my favorite model... and Commander... back and forth between the two. And 7... so top 3.

The Specwar is an ergonomic marvel and perhaps the most underrated/little-known models, at least in the pre-signature era. The all-titanium liner 2000 I posted a few posts up is incredibly light and easy to carry.
