What do you guys think of this. It is very different from what I usually do. I was inspired in this design by Busse and Rinaldi knives. I wanted something modern and tactical looking so here's what I came up with. Anyway, it is 12" overall length by 1/4" thick O1 steel differentially tempered. Handle is micarta. Any opinions good or bad are appreciated. Thanks

Ray,
It looks like it would not get hurt if you were to chop down a tree, but it does look like it is a little fat nosed. Kinda looks like a pug dog with the real flat face. I don't know how to describe it any other way.

How does the handle feel while chopping with that exposed tang wider than the scales? Ive felt a few like that and they weren't for me, but some people like them. I agree on the fat nose, but it looks like a real abuse horse, and thats a good thing!

Thanks guys. The tang is not wider than the scales it is flush with the scales. The butt of the tang does extend past the scales however.

I absolutley love it. Great job. I have a few knives with that same kind of fat tip on it. Very strong and good looking. Very distinctive.

I'll second that, although I'd describe it as a spline weighted too much towards the tip. I'd also suggest rounding the guard a little bit more, although I really like how the ricasso recedes from the edge, so it ends cleanly.

:) looks great to me. I asume its a flat grind? Is it a distal or tapered tang?
I'm just wondering what the balance is like. It does look like a big meaty camp knife. Good job:thumbup:

  1. I love the shape of the handle. Very well executed lines
  2. I agree about rounding the corners of the guard.
  3. I like the clean, no nonsense look of the blade shape
  4. I think you would do very well with a seriies in a few sizes, from EDC on up to this one.
  5. Are the handle slabs laterally contoured as well?
  6. Great decision to descend the top of the handle to accent the thumb ridges
  7. Lastly, excellent workmanship on this one, I think you have a winner, maybe even more than one, here.

Ooooh, Danbo like. I'd like it even more with an unsharpened swedge that goes about a third of the way back from the tip, but it's a beauty as is.

Wow, thanks for the comments guys. I thought this thread died two months ago. It's alive again! because of these comments, I think I'll make more of this style in various sizes and with a little pointier tip. I'll be getting a kydex press soon so I'll be offering them with kydex or leather sheaths.
