This arrived today in one of our favorite triangle boxes. It is a Birthday gift for my friend Alan who I have worked with for the last 15 years. He is moving out of the country with his family in June and I asked Auntie for something special. She suggested this Hanuman made by the new Kami - I don't know his name yet. This knife is the liveliest in my hand that I have yet to hold, the balance is exquisite. The blade is nothing short of breathtaking - super high polish with a nice, pointed, nasty looking tip that some Khuks don't have. The frog is very nice as well with matching brass work on the tip the same as under the hilt on the knife. The hilt is stepped and notched, perfectly done.

Thank You Yangdu, this is the perfect gift.

**I misunderstood, this is a new style Hanuman not a new Kami, apologies.

Very beautiful! I hope your friend can really appreciate this piece of art and showcase of culture.
Judging by the guard design and the exquisite blade decorations I would have sworn this is Rajkumar's (the prince) work. Either way, the Kami and Sarki both deserve great praise even more than usual on this one.

Edit: Thanks for posting those pics for the HI 'library'!
Edit2: I think I was right, the Kami mark looks like the mountains of Rajkumar. Also, that upswept, piercing tip is really quite rare for HI kuks, somewhat reminiscent of a Movie model or Ultimate Fighter.

I must have been mistaken about the new kami if this is Rajkumar's work. It wouldn't surprise me though, this khuk looks like it was made by a prince at least !!:D

More pics, I hope you guys don't mind....

He mas white metal teeth with brass eyes as well as deep cut ear holes.

What a great gift! Please let us know your friend's reaction when he gets it.

Originally I had wanted a CAK for Alan because he really liked my AK and was very keen on the fact it came from Nepal. When Auntie didn't have a CAK she kindly picked this beautiful Hanuman out instead.
Now I'm afraid there might be an issue..... Alan is pretty orthodox Jewish, kosher, attends chabad, never works on shabbat or any Jewish holiday. He is strong in his Jewish faith.
So I'm learning now that the handle of the Hanuman is a carving of the Hindu God. This makes it a bit tricky for me..... Do I give him the gift knowing that it is a graven image of another deity ??
He is moving to Israel with his family to be closer to their roots, and I just don't want to make a social religious blunder with this parting B-day gift.

I will probably just explain to Alan what happened and wait for a CAK, it will be late for a B-day present but he is not moving out of country until late June so I should be able to get him it before he leaves.
So this Hanuman special will have to wait to see where and who it ends up with.

I have no religious affiliation, so Lord Hanuman and the HI blade in his honor are definitely welcome in my home.
This was bought as a gift however and still may end up as so...

HIKV has to spread somehow.;)

Does anyone know how far the tang reaches into the handle on this model ?

That's a great looking knife:) Love the little extras on the teeth and eyes:)

As far as the tang goes, I think they are in there pretty deep. A guess would be at least 3/4 deep. An easy way to test this out would be to get a hammer and a screwdriver, crank the knife in a vice and....;) I kid, I kid;)

As far as the Orthodox thing, maybe you don't tell him it's Hanuman. One man's idol is another man's monkey head:)
