:) My 1st post...

Need recommendation, Super steel Drop Point knife (<$200 budget).
So far, in my radar :
1. ZT 0770 CF Elmax + Carbon Fiber
2. ZT 0801 Elmax +Titanium
3. Benchmade 581 Barrage , M390 +G10

Please help me to choose...

I have a ZT0770CF it is a nice knife but it is more sheeps foot than drop point. It is very thin light weight but I felt the flipper tab was little on the small side. Take a look at ZT0562CF 20cv (non assisted excellent flipper, my favorite ZT.) Benchmade Griptilian 551-1 20cv another nice knife with great steel my favorite Benchmade and any Spyderco PM2 or Manix 2 (any steel with G10 or CF).
All of these are around the same size blade wise.

All three nice options

I like sharpening M390
Elmax not so much

ûThey are all good knives.

I find that m390 is way easier to sharpen than Elmax. I don’t really understand how or why as Elmax is sort of the little brother of m390.

By that I mean it has it has its alloying elements in the same proportion as Elmax, just abit more of each. (Except silicon)

I don’t know what it is that causes it but M390 (and its american cousins: cts204p and 20cv) has become my favourite steel to sharpen because it is so much easier to sharpen.

I revised the list

1. ---------------------
2. ZT 0801 Elmax +Titanium
3. Benchmade 581 Barrage , M390 +G10
4. Benchmade Griptilian 551-1 20cv

ZT0562CF 20cv out of my budget

Any thoughts?

But just ever so slightly and worth the $240ish. The new ZT609 is right in your higher budget range as well for 20cv.

But do you want a flipper or AXIS lock?

For my money would go with #4 the Grip. You can always customize it down the road if you get the itch. Lots of after market options both new and used (clips, hardware, scales...).

I almost just bought the 0770 ELMAX one.
Went with the 0450CF. I tried this knife at a BM and was blown away.
Good luck in your quest ;)

I would highly recommend the Cold Steel Ultimate hunter. I have carried and used mine extensively. I have used it for anything from opening boxes to dressing dear and wild boar. It feels Awesome and the Tri-ad lock is not so stiff on this model. It is my favorite drop point by far and a amazing value. The cts-xhp is my hand down favorite steel. It seems to sharpen extremely easily for its edge retention.

Pulled the trigger.....the Benchmade 551-1 Griptilian 20cv

Hope will me make happy....

Thanks all for your input, start from Elmax vs M390......ending with 20cv :D

PS: Looking for small edc as well (<3", <$100, s30v if possible)

It may be 3.1 inches, but I love my buck vantage pro in s30v. It's WELL under $100
