New Suspect w/ New CQC-7 Wave

I am new to this forum and the only reason I’m here is because of the Emerson Wave. Otherwise I would still be in the Butch Vallotton camp. I’m not a collector but a user/abuser of blades and it takes a lot for me to switch and learn a new blade. But after handling the waved CQC7 at the NY Knife Show, I sold my workhorse Vallotton to a dealer right there on the spot and ordered a black waved CQC-7 w/ plain blade. Sorry Butch, but autos are history for practical/tactical pocket carry. After reading just about all the Emerson threads while waiting for my knife, I now expect to be a Usual Suspect. I got my knife with no quality problems at all, locks up tight and w/ a serial number to boot. Over the phone, I got great customer service from the company. They made a little over a hundred of these and there are only about 10 left. Better hurry. So if I can’t have a waved custom Emerson, then this will do for now. Compared with the SOCFK, I like the compact handle and lack of serrations (features worth my life when deploying from under a sweater). My only change would be to use a full flat grind like Mad Dog knives instead of a chisel grind, but then it wouldn’t be an Em, would it? I like tanto blades on a work knife because you can use it for anything without a thought about breaking the tip. And you may have to stab through a heavy material that a Commander blade cannot slash through. As for the pocket clip, I’d like it higher but in reality, it’s at about the max that my pants can conceal without unintentional migration. And today, everyone knows what that clip hanging out of your pocket is. Just poll a few perps and they’ll tell you it’s as obvious as a fanny pack worn in front. For the real element of surprise, nothing beats a steel necktie. So have a look:

My next wave, it's already on order. At the New York Show I was able to sneak in one of the first C/P orders for a waved I&I Sports Tanto with a 4" Spirograph Damascus non-serrated blade and right-hand grind. Should be ready in January. When I find what I like I go for it!

Such as?

Loose layers of leather and denim, as the youth here in the Northeast are fond of wearing. Slashing works great on clothes stuffed tight with newspaper, try it on loose layers and the give of the fabric lessens your cutting power. I know a Commander can still penetrate, its just not my first choice. My first choice for defense is actually a push knife.

Glockjock,

Welcome to the fold. You are definately in big trouble wallet wise. I love to tel guys at shows that we make the fastest opening folder in the world. I always get someone who wants to race. Haven't lost yet.

Funny that you mention the Mad Dog grind. I not only work for Emerson Knives but an=m a huge Mad Dog fan. I have 8-10 Dog's and will undoubtably have more. I consider Kevin a good friend as well. Both Ernie and Kevin are agreeable to doing a collaboration. Ernie is one of the few makers that The Dog really has respect for and likes. The real trouble is trying to coordinate the two schedules. Someday, this will happen, don't hold your breath but, I will give it some serious effort in the future.

Malazo,
I own one and put mine through a car door, and then had to open tin cans on a campout. It still sliced tomatoes after a quick once over with my Lansky. I don't own the wave version just a CQC7.
