I usually hang out in the Auto Knives section... but I've always been into swords and this is my first post here..

I've been getting into "tactical short swords" lately and I wanted to get one
But I wanted to cover a few bases:

- Practice Chinese Jian.. therefore the style & length (have a regular Jian but useless in my apartment)
- Cutting .................... so it's a sharpened, high carbon spring steel blade
- Home defense .......... short and usable with 2 hands. 15" Blade, 11" Handle

So this is what I came up with:

what do you think?

It would do the trick as a last ditch SD tool but as a practitioner of Chinese fighting styles, I have to admit it just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I'm just being g curmudgeonly. Dunno. Might be the handle to blade ratio. Yeah, that's it. Shorten the handle.

I'm with you on the looks; it does kind of look funny, initially - especially if you own or have handled normal Jians..

But there are 2 handed Jians and I wanted the option. You can wield this one single handed.

I was going for this but the Chinese Jian components were the most easily available to me:
(also, the beautifully tactical sword below is over US$ 1,200 and so well over my budget ;) )

you say "components" - did you assemble this from parts, and if so from where please I'm intrigued!

It's made at a Chinese factory to my specs using the fittings that they have on hand.

This was the fastest way to get something to assess the concept with my own hands. I may explore alternative components in the future if this one proves worthy.

One good sword deserves another;)

Extended handle or longer blade, "reach is reach". I like it. Being able to choke up and get in close is nice too.
