Hi Steve. My HD-7 cuts holes holes in my pocket because the back-strap does not cover the tip of the blade. Could you make a new "tail pipe" that would correct this? I'd be much obliged! Thakts Steve.

Ok I'm lost in the translation here. :D

Are you saying that when the blade closes it doesn't close far enough and that the tip of the blade aka "point" sticks up poking holes in your pants??

Steve,
When the knife is clipped to my pocket, the point of the knife will catch the cloth that folds into it and cut through it, leaving a hole. If the back strap filled the butt of the knife, that could not happen. Does that help?
Rolf

BackStrap?? I'm guessing the rear spacer??? You mean that black spacer in the middle between the G10 side and the titanium side? I'm not sure I have material thick enough here to make a new spacer. I'll know that shortly though because I have Theo's HD7 here that I'll be measuring later today.

It sure sounds to me like the blade is not seating deep enough into the handle for the point to catch anything. I'm looking at Theo's 7 right now trying to follow or picture how this could possibly happen or how cloth could get into that slot to be cut.

I'm sure that I can adjust that if I can see it. I'd have to see it to discern what is exactly happening and act accordingly.

Steve. Yes. Rear spacer! If the rear spacer filled the butt of the knife, the point could not cut the pocket. There is a 3/8 or 1/4 inch gap that allows this to happen. A rear spacer that would fit flush with the butt would be the answer. I could send you a drawing. I don't want to depart with this knife unless I have to. Thanks Steve.

I may be able to make one. I'll know shortly.

Thanks, Steve. I'll await your reply. Do you think you'll get another HD?
Rolf

Ok the bad news is this. The spacer in that back of this folder is .185 thickness which is significantly thicker than anything I stock to use for the stuff I do. The thickest titanium I stock is .160 and the thickest G10 or Micarta I have on hand is .150.

I really don't have the need to ever stock anything thicker so I just don't have it. The other alternative is to take the point back some. I'm looking hard at Theo's HD7 and have trouble picturing how this is happening with your folder. I carried this knife of Theo's because after all it was mine and he bought it from me but I never ran into this problem.

About the best I could offer is to leave you an open invite to mail it to me when you have another that has your attention and you feel like you can do without it.

Sorry. I wish I could tell you more.

Thanks, Steve! I'll try ask'n Emerson Knives. They'll probably say no, but at least I'll have asked! Keep up the great work, Steve.
Rolf

Steve,
Plan B. Would Emerson Knives send you the rear spacer G-10 or whatever they are using? That might work since you know Ernie. Just an idea. Thanks Steve.
Rolf

I seriously doubt it. They have not been that great about much more than screws for me and when they mailed me a pocket clip I was billed for it. Call them tomorrow and ask them but due to the part its likely to be something they'll tell you to mail the knife about. It may be the best move actually because it should not do what its doing to your clothes.

Will-do. I'll let you know the outcome, just to bore you with the details! They can be a little funky at times, that Emerson gang. Charging you for a pocket clip!! PAA-LEASE!! Thanks Syeve.
Rolf

Steve,
Emerson will not address the problem but they might send you a piece of G-10. Is that OK with you? They told me I'm not the first one they heard this from and yet they won't correct the problem? Strange. I'll let you know what I hear. Thanks!
Rolf

Yeah. Well I'd need a piece that thick. I can make it fit. I'm not worried about that. I'd be surprised if they'd drop ship it out to me but thats great if they do.

STR

OKIE-DOKIE, Steve! I'll let you know when or if I hear back from Emerson. Thanks Steve. Did you go with a metal roof?
Rolf

Steve,
Got that piece of .185 G-10 come'n, but not from Emerson. They need a course in "Good Business"-101. I'll let you know when I get it. Thanks Steve and great choice on the metal roof!
