I spoke of getting a tattoo a while back and have pretty much settled on this one. Thoughts?

Maybe somebody that has had them done can tell me if the red 'burn' around the edges would look good against skin or maybe some other colors would work better? I am yet to show it to the artist.

I think your avatar would make a better tattoo.

Take it from personal experience... red on a tattoo is a bad idea... may look good at first but it will turn pink in a few years when it's used in such small area's :(

I like the hog part but not the knives..I only use black ink in my tats...not a really into colours much but that is just me.

+1 on the no red thing......mine faded quick. i like the crossed Busses
black with shading is the way to go! let us know....... if u dont use it for a tattoo..i will;)

I also think the HOG in either one of your avatars would be better. Take your design to the the tattoo artist and he will help you with the colors.

Research your artists and talk to them about their inks and the light fastness to them. As I understand it, Red was a bad color to deal with for many because of cheap pigment and allergies. Any tattoo artist worth your time and money will be able to talk inks easily. I have reds that are over 20 years old and are still very vivid.

I really like what you have designed.
I would like to see how they look without the shading as a comparison.
The hog in your avatar is fairly cartoony. Not a bad thing, but I prefer the other one.
Hope you'll share the finished product with us!!

Good info guys, especially on the red!
Yeah, I did think on my avatar, but the cartoony thing came into it. The tattooist is a chick and she is brilliant. She is an outstanding artist and loves petic licence. I will get her to have a play and post what she comes up with. Maybe the avatar with some keltic around it would make it more serious. I will keep you posted.

One thing is for sure, its gonna happen...:)

You're going to have a "red burn" around the tattoo for a week or so after getting it done anyhow, lol. Red does will fade quicker than black shading would, but you can slow it down quite a bit by applying sunscreen if you tattoo is exposed to sun light on a daily basis.

In my opinion you should do all black, no color, and use the boar pic in your sig line.

Also, the Busse knife profiles look like blanks with no handles. Perhaps she could do them with a little more detail and include the micarta handles? I think that would look really nice.

Matteo, I will be giving 'Sky' (yes...:)), high res photos of the ASH. She said she can get some brilliant detail just using shading, so will see what she comes up with. She did mention barbed wire and the knife would be 'Australian', which may work out okay too.

Big decision, and hard! I want it to be spot on.

I believe color retention differs from person to person. Yellow and white do not stay on me. Red is fine. I like what you have picked out just fine. Course since it will be with YOU forever, the design must be something you will like for many years to come. Choose wisely is the only advice I would offer.
